A Fat Man’s 2009 Un-Resolution…Consistency

Earlier this year I sat down and had a heart-to-heart with myself. I looked at my weight chart, saw the trends and had an epiphany of sorts. I haven’t seen this since I recorded it, but I felt it would help if it was posted. It deals with consistency and getting on track. I happen to dislike resolutions, but in this case I felt compelled to make one. Until now, I hadn’t realized how unhappy I looked…

I haven’t been as consistent as I would have liked to be thus far, but I still have time to change that. Watching myself talk about it definitely helps me. The reason I make video blogs is to see myself, my mannerisms, my facial expressions. To listen to the words that I say and hold myself accountable.

    I think dieters don’t talk about trends enough. Like stocks, trends can tell us so much about ourself and our relationship with our diet. One of my biggest weaknesses is consistency. I’m glad you talk about it.

    Keep ya head up partner! Dude I believe you can do it, you just got to put you all in it. I like you have my time when I stop and start but if you can be 80% percent consistent like Muta over at Mr. Low body fat says you can and will succeed. Good luck man!!! You got my SUPPORT!

  4. Congrats on the 6 lbs. That’s awesome.

    As for consistency, I hear ya. I have been doing well with exercise but it’s the food, portion control that I seem to constantly have issues with now. I’m thinking I need to get back to writing in a food journal until I can get it under control again.

    You’re fine man, why such a “gloomy” post. Listen, there is now wagon to fall off of on this journey we’re all on here. I really hate hearing folks say this because it makes them feel as if they have to start over or that they’re such a failure. It’s all in your perspective. Do you go home when you make a wrong turn? Of course not, you simply turn around, backtrack, and go the right way. Fat loss is really no different. Accept the fact that you are only human, and that you’re not going to be compliant 100% of the time nor should you! Hang in there Is and know that you have a lot of folks here for you …

    I saw your post for the first time right around when you filmed yourself. You’re doing an amazing job. You are a role model for a lot of people out there. It’s amazing to be so upfront with yourself and come to terms with your goals, achievements, and more goals to come. I think you are on an amazing track. Stay with it!

  7. I`m a regular dietor truly and I know how hard it is to control yourself and not to break the rules stated by youself. 43 is too fas for such a period I think. It is not health to loose weight too fast. It can ruin the stability of the processes in your body. Be careful! and good luck!

    I love your intro.

    As I am going through my weight loss journey, I find that the most important thing that one has to learn, more than what to eat, what not to eat, to exercise or not, the most important thing is consistency. One must be consistent in their diet and their exercise routine. Otherwise, that person is just going to spin their wheels in frustration and waste their time. I feel your pain. It’s hard to be consistent when life happens. But keep at it! Remember, it’s not just the weight, but the changes that you’re making in yourself and the bad habits that you are eliminating in order to change your body, improve your health and overall wellbeing.

    Consistently and constantly making the right choices is pretty tough. I haven’t been able to pull it off. I’m more a “continuous course correction” kind of guy. You’ve made great progress. Great job.

    Yeah, I see you’ve mentioned a couple of times that this is from a few months ago and you’ve come some distance in your mental journey since then. But I’m in complete agreement with the “course correction” comment above. Really like your idea of doing something, a walk or some pushups, at the beginning of every day just to touch base with what you’re about here. How is that going, now that we’re in mid-April? I find if I don’t make a firm mental commitment within an hour or so of waking, then the whole day is in danger of being written off. It’s still early days for me, though. Can’t yet imagine losing 43 pounds. Great work so far, and the blog looks good.

    Congratulations on your weight loss! I so find it hard to get back into the weight loss game once I’ve had fun not doing the things I’m supposed to. It’s almost like an addiction – and it feels like you have to start from day one again.

    And it is true – if you don’t start the day with the choice of weight loss – the whole day goes to hell.

  13. Great inspiration to people like me, I think whatever you have done so far is great. Just need to be consistent I think, that’s all You and all the other dieter should be.I started a routine that should see me lose about 5 stones in 1 month. Will be sending a link of my video soon guys.

    Hey dude, loosing weight, is quite similiar to the skinny guys trying to gain weight. All I can say for consistency is to look at it as something as fun. You need to set goals for yourself, something more then just loosing weight. I suggest you join a gym and lift weights, try setting new records and getting stronger, this may keep you coming back into the gym. Look at it as a lifestyle choice rather then a means to an end….

    The basics are still true. I dont like to work out, I do construction in the day & that is enough for me. So I will leave the workout out of this list. Besides eating smaller portions of the deserts, I eat more vegetables & a lot of fruit.
    What I am getting to is I have lost weight doing the basics, I eat a little healthier but not much. I found if I go overboard & cut too many things out I will end up giving up & binging or once I lose weight & get off the diet I catch up for lost time if you know what I mean.
    I went from 245 lbs. to 210 lbs. on about 5 weeks & I have kept it off for the first time since I started gaining weight 18 years ago.
    I have learned to gorge on vegetables when eating lunch & dinner & then eat the good stuff. Other than that, I learned that if you are lacking vitamins & minerals, even just a few, your mind will crave something & we think it is too eat more & if what we eat does not have what we are lacking it does not fill the hole. Learning that is what took the weight off & is keeping it off. I was putting together 72 hour kits for a church project & there were these pills called Lifecaps They have all the vitamins & minerals even iodine in them. They are for survival not weight loss. But after I learned about lacking vitamins or minerals creates cravings we try to fill & that 95% of over the counter vitamins do not get digested & end up in the sewers. I researched different vitamins & companies.     I’m with you as far as resolutions… even when you make them seemingly achievable – you are basing it on information you have at the time. I fell off the horse but have climbed back on…

    I’m focusing on the workouts and portioning (hence I am still kind of counting calories). I am finding it is easier to see my progress rather then depend solely on the results of the weekly weigh in. The pressure is off and I am doing bag work as well as martial arts drills.

    Sounds like you are doing fine – keep up the motivational posts as it really helps me!

    If posting video blogs helps inspire you and keep you on track, I say keep posting. No two people’s motivation for weight loss is the same, and if you find something that works for you, stick with it!
