Confessions of a Fat Man: HELP ME

This day finds me in a downtrodden state. Over the last few days I have been in a downward spiral of depression and unhealthy eating. I am not sure what triggered it and can’t seem to get out of it. I feel trapped. I need some mental assistance from my fellow fitness brothers and sisters. I just can’t shake this relapse.

I have been overeating and not working out. It’s killing me that I can’t get my act together. I need some help. Please. What can I do?

don’t worry about it! same thing happened to me this weekend, and i felt the exact same way. but i decided yesterday to just forget about it, think about my goals, re-focus, and take things a day at a time.

    good luck!

Do worry about it! Look at what you are doing. Maybe you are trying to take on too much at one time. Focus on one exercise goal and one eating goal. Just do one thing and do it every day. Maybe it’s just drinking water and doing some cardio, but do it all the time for a month, then try to add one more food thing. Please don’t give up! If we set unattainable goals it can be very disheartening whenever we can’t keep them. Don’t try to lose this all at once, if you need more help, email me. I will be glad to talk with you. jgk060606@yahoo.com

I think what you need is a challenge. Something to get you motivated and regain your focus.

How are you at running on the treadmill? What to compete for the most number of miles in the least amount of time. Or maybe just the most total miles overall?

Let me know, I am always up for a challenge, we could even bet (winner gets a guest post on the others blog, or something like that) if you’re up to it?

I actually agree with all of the above. Before you say that sounds contradictory, they’re all saying the same thing (just in different ways) – take a step back and think about your goals. Focusing on a different aspect of them – perhaps setting a new strength-training PR or two – should make all the difference.

It happens to us all. You can’t let it bother you too much.

What I suggest you do is look at all the progress you have made and ask if you are willing to give it up?

Have a break for a day or two and then get back on track.

Focus Israel San. You must focus on one part of your training for a full week then mix it up to break up the monotony of your routine. Focus Israel San!

Maybe you really need to follow something. I don’t know if you do it, but why not plan your meals or calorie intake in advance? Like a whole week plan, with a cheat meal at the end?

That way you simply have to follow your plan and not make up your food intake as you go. Same thing for your workouts.

You may need to plan in advance for a week or more, just the time for this little depression to go away, this is just a period of time, but if you don’t overcome then it can install itself for many more days.

So you need to act now so that today was the last day of overeating and not doing your workouts.

Hmm…if you listen to Mike Mentzer’s HIT, it could be your body’s way to telling you that you’re overtraining. Taking a break from the weights could be a good thing. Pull back on the overeating though.

Find a girlfriend who would scold you when you eat too much.

Thanks for all the support and advice. I feel a bit better today and haven’t over indulged, but I still don’t feel the desire to train.

I of course did not take the time to read the other comments before posting mine (why would I bother to do that?) so I am probably repeating others — but I’d say, do ONE Thing that is positive. Say, a set of pushups. A set of situps. During the commercial. Then, next commercial, run around the house. (The outside.) See how many times you can go around it in 3 minutes.

Come back in , breathing heavy, a bit sweaty, and watch the rest of the show (if it is a REALLY good one) or, if it’s not that good, turn OFF the TV (or computer, why are you still reading???) and put on a proper pair of shoes and go for a brisk walk.

That’s my advice. Little steps, stem the tide of sloth, and then you will be on your way again. Don’t let a day’s defeat turn into a rout that will lose you the war!

    Charge!

  12. I’ve been there so many times. The further your fall into the pit the harder it is to climb back out. If you can’t jump back on track full force then just focus on doing ONE thing right today. Eat a healthy breakfast and take it from there. Do one thing right and build on it, the little things add up in the end. Hang in there, we can do this!!

  13. hey, i hope that you are alright then. Dont let these things affect your daily life Take care

Learn to live life one moment at a time!!! Often when we get depress we have a whole barrage of images and feelings bombarding us. The way that I deal with that dis empowering state, is to recognize what is going on, then I begin to get grateful.I become thankful that I can breath, have the use of my limbs, still have my mother (dad passed this year) and so on. If I have the time I watch a funny movie (last time I felt this way I watch the Anchor Man, hilarious!). In other words I do something to break my state. This is not easy to do the first time you do it, but like everything else it becomes easy as you put it into practice!!! Keep your head up!!!
