Stretch Marks Are My Biggest Regret

I have some of the ugliest stretch marks known to man. It’s rather disgusting and repulsive. Of all the things I have regretted about letting myself get so overweight, it’s my stretch marks that I regret the most. I have bunch of them along my sides that wrap around my love handles. I also have a few on my lower abdomen. Let me not forget the ones on my arms, although I don’t care about those that much since I have had them for years.

Stretch Marks on my arms

I just couldn’t let myself post the pictures of the stretch marks on my back. I have limits dammit! If you look close enough you can see them in my current Evolution Pictures.

I first noticed all of the disgusting stretch marks one day when I had finished showering. I was toweling myself off and went to grab the deodorant when I noticed some reddish purple marks on my back in the mirror. I thought I was bleeding. But alas, it was the dreaded stretch marks. I immediately examined my body and realized that I had officially self-mutilated my body by letting myself get so fat. I then put on a shirt and hoped they would disappear.

They did. Because I didn’t look at my body in a mirror for many months. I was depressed the whole time. That also led to my making this blog and deciding that enough was enough. The affect it had on me was devastating. For all those months I continued to add to the obesity by over eating, binging, and not exercising. I still find it a little hard to look in the mirror but having to take photos for the blog is helping me. You see, this is therapeutic for me. It also helps me hold myself accountable.

This may seem shallow but I don’t want to have a bunch of nasty marks on my body when I finally get back in to shape. I have seen some people, and friends, and it isn’t a pretty sight. I hope mine turn white and blend in with my skin over time. If not I won’t be taking my shirt off at the beach. No sir!

Is there some kind of surgery to remove stretch marks? Are stretch marks haunting you?

I wish that there was a way to get rid of stretch marks. Using a good lotion after every shower has helped me. Also, getting sun on them fades them after time. Most of mine are from babies and until the belly is a LOT smaller it’s not seeing the light of day anytime soon!

    • IsraelNo Gravatar says:

LOL. Yeh, my arms are so tanned, but my back and belly are white as day. So the sun huh? I may lay in my back yard every now and then. Do you know if the baby stretch marks cream works for guys too?

  2. You might want to try some of those scar eraser/minimizer strips…it might help with the stretch marks. Though my mother swears by Shea’s coco butter…after every shower, and randomly through the day.

  3. JessieNo Gravatar says:

I have stretch marks as well.
Most can be attributed to my many pregnancies.(5)

You not only recieve these wonderful marks from gaining weight, but also from losing weight quickly. Some people are more prone to stretch marks than others. I believe it has to do with the elasticity of your skin.

I have noticed in the last 2 months that many of mine are fading, they are no longer as noticeable, especially the ones on my arms. They are turning white…almost clear.

I am not sure if there is a way to completely rid yourself of these marks, but your post made me curious enough to do a bit of research on the subject.

    • IsraelNo Gravatar says:

I have some of those white fades ones from when I was in shape a while back. Even when i was 209 lbs i was able to pull my arm skin as if it was a piece of rubber. Pretty freaky. I hope mine go away.

  4. HotoNo Gravatar says:

wow that`s what i call big guns. who cears about strech marks with this arms. to get it a littel better use some oil. bodybuilders do take some oil too but it doesn`t help to much.

  5. DivinaNo Gravatar says:

Actually, there are over the counter creams for stretchmarks. You can get them at any pharmacy I believe. It’s the same stuff pregnant women use as their abdomen stretches out in such a short time. I hope this helps a little. Best of luck to you!

I have also gained weight in last 4 years, and I also have these stretch marks, and I just hate them. I have used a cream which my doctor recommended by, nothing happened. I want to ask you people, can I remove these marks, If I loose weight ?

  7. Vera BradleyNo Gravatar says:

Maybe I should make tattoos to hide them. lol

  8. RachelNo Gravatar says:

I have some stretch marks too, since I gain and lose weight easily. I’ve been using lotions on them a lot, usually moisturizing and whitening lotions, or skin firming lotions. So far they’ve gone lighter and a bit smoother.

    Does shea butter work?

  9. PatNo Gravatar says:

Yea I had to deal with stretch marks too. I went from a bit heavy to skinny and there they were. I did the lotions and the diet and drinking lots of water. I still have them but not as bad, Luckily they are in an area that I don’t have to show.

  10. The cool thing about stretch marks like the picture you posted, is that once you get yourself back into great shape, those will be there for a different reason. Stretch marks work both ways… If you get big too fast because you are getting fat, or if you get big too fast because you are packing on muscle. I have the same “problem” near my armpit, but if you continue to workout, look at these stretch marks with a positive light… They are there because you are gaining muscle πŸ™‚

  11. chrisNo Gravatar says:

Coco butter lotion after every shower helps lighten them, also building muscles on your currect stretchmarks helps lighten them making them not so noticable.

I have them the exact place as yours in your pictures and i was really depressed about them but you have to get over it and not let it affect your end goals.

  12. John E. SmokeNo Gravatar says:

I’ve got stretch marks like you Israel. Almost identical, in fact. Apart from my lower back. I got them from gaining muscle mass through weight training.
It depressed me so much that I just stopped weight training altogether. My logic was: ‘Here I am working my ass off trying to improve my body and I get all these ugly scars – why bother?’
Anyway, that was a couple of years ago. I’m out of shape again, but with about 75% of the mass I put on by training, plus the marks. They’ve faded considerably, but are still prominent. I’ve tried vitamin cream, over-the-counter (i.e. non prescription) stretch-mark creams, but I think their fading is mainly due to natural body processes. I don’t think topical creams really do anything more than helping prevent them.
I think the only way to really combat them is with cosmetic surgery and treatments like laser treatment and dermabrasion.
Anyway, in your Evolution Pictures link, yours seem to have disappeared altogether.

  13. GituNo Gravatar says:

your stretch marks are really not that bad. i’m a girl and i have them on my arms, breasts and hips cos i gained weight suddenly! i tried loadsa creams including cocoa butter, stri vectin but nothing worked! i’ve now learned to just accept them!

  14. danNo Gravatar says:

hey man, I got the same thing on my arms and sides – i’m a guy and I gained a lot of weight recently. I try the creams, they don’t work … it sucks.. I just deal with it, and if someone says something I smack em across the mouth

  15. I am a man and I have stretchmarks on my back and legs.
I use a cocoa butter recipe which helps.
Stretchmarks are there for good really, you can only reduce them.

WELL MY STORY IS ALMOST THE SAME, I USED TO BE IN SHAPE DUE TO 6 MOTHS IN JUVENILE BOOTCAMP, I WAS IN SHAPE. THAN I HAD A KID LATER WITH MY WIFE AND GAINED ABOUT 25 POUNDS, BUT MAN THEY MESSED UP MY SKIN LIKE NO OTHER…. .. I RESERCHED THE NET AND FOUND COUPLE OF TIPS, I DONT DRINK SODA OR DRINKS LIKE THAT JUST WATER ABOUT 1 GAL PER DAY, I TAKE VITAMINS EVERY MORNING WHEN I WAKE UP, PUT COCO BUTTER ON MY SKIN WHEN AM DONE TAKING A SHOWER AND I RUN AT THE GYM TILL I SWEAT A LOT SO MY SKIN IS MOIST ALSO TRIED TO GET THE SUN ON THEM SO MY SKIN CAN DO SOME WORK….

WELL AT THE END MY ARM STRECH MARK WENT AWAY THERE WAS A LOT OF LITTLE ONES
MY STOMACH ONES GOT REAL LIGHT
THIS WAS THE BEST RESULTS I GOT THEY REALLY HELPED ME I HOPE IT DOES TO SOMEONE ELSE……MAIN ONES IS SWEAT, WATER NO SODA AND SUN LIGHT……
AND MY LOVE HANDLE ONES ARE NOT AS BAD AS B4

  17. MikeNo Gravatar says:

Man, I’m only 15 years old, and I gained a lot of weight very quickly but lost most of it, and I’ve got a horrible problem with stretch marks. They are so ugly and embarrassing. I’ve tried 2 lotions so far, they would seem to be working, but then it would look like they’ve gone nowhere. I’m really trying to find a solid way to get rid of them.

  18. JoeNo Gravatar says:

Yeah I’m an 18 year old male, I gained a lot of weight quickly when I injured my knee. But I hit the gym hard lost the weight and got a 6 pack. Unfortunately the stretch marks remained – all over my chest, Shoulders and arms. (Going as low as my elbow) It was a very hard pill to swallow, losing all that weight, looking great and not being able to show it off. Naturally my self confidence was at an all time low, none of the creams worked. But I went to a cosmetic store and bought me a spray on tan bottle that went well with my olive skin. I think there’s also some body make up that hides the scars and marks. Anyway the Spray on Tan worked very well on me and it felt good to know that there was atleast a temporary relief available to me.

  19. JamieNo Gravatar says:

I got big in my teens – 6′, 270. I was fat. My arms stretched out really bad, as did my sides, underarms, and a bit of my stomach. It was easy enough to cover up my torso, but I was terribly embarrassed about my arms, as they would show sometimes when wearing a t-shirt. I would never take my shirt off – my friends may have known I was fat and didn’t care, but showing what else I had done to my body was a no-go.

Anyway, I spent three years like that before getting it together. It’s taken years, but I’m a lean 175 pound marathon running gym rat. And I couldn’t care less about those stretch marks. They fade. They’re there still, but lighter. I have some excess skin around my biceps and abs, but it’s a badge of honor as far as I’m concerned. My four pack would almost definitely be a six if I had the skin removed, but that would be pure vanity.

My point is this: My body will likely never look perfect, but it looks perfect to me.

  20. DonutboyNo Gravatar says:

I gained quite a chunk of weight freshman year, went from 190 to 225 in two months (at 6’0″), now I’ve got stretch marks all over my gut and arms. Mine are yellowish/white though, so not so noticeable. Does this mean they’re fading? They were never red to begin with, so…I’m not sure.

  21. JoeNo Gravatar says:

Hey Israel. Your story is practically the same one I had. From 6th grade to 10th grade I was overweight and finally got into weight training in school at 11th grade. Rapidly losing weight from that gave me so many unsightly stretchmarks. I have them on my waist, biceps, few on my back and groin area, and (the worst) about 4-5 2-inch stretch marks on each side of my belly button. Weirdly, I also have marks on the opposite side of my elbow, in the crease. It has been about 2 1/2 years since they’ve been here. Many of them have faded from very red to almost not-visible; still white though. The ones on my abs and groin area are still very noticeable. I too get depressed about them sometimes and honestly I haven’t been to the beach since. Since I have had them for quite a while, I’m getting used to them. I’ve heard tanning can make them more visible, but in my opinion I think they will look less unsightly. I’m very white by the way. Working out has definitely boosted my self-esteem, confidence, and has relieved a great amount of depression and stress for me. Eventually, if there are any surgeries to get rid of them I may decide to give them a try if I can get some money together. Yea, I told you my sob story, but the only advice I can give you is to go ahead and use those random Vitamin-K or whatever creams to prevent and hopefully fade them over time. I’ve heard it is good to use creams on common stretch mark spots before you workout. Just try not to stress out about it. My stretch marks have faded decently. I’ve shown many people my stretch marks and to be honest no one has made fun of me or anything like that. If you can get comfortable with them I’m sure other people will too. To close, in my opinion, if you’re built and cut-up, the last thing people will see is your stretch marks. It has seemed to work with me. I’m not sure if any of this has helped you, other than the fact there are many people with the same problem. Just another thing we have to go through to be a stud. Have a good one.

  22. CrystalNo Gravatar says:

    Hi Israel,

I see that your original post about stretch marks was made back in 2007. How are your stretch marks now after the weightloss? Did they get worse/better?

I gained alot of weight (after losing it) in the past 7 months and my skin obviously just couldn’t handle it, and I have gained new stretch marks. I already had loads from my teens on my thighs, breasts and arms etc, but they are all white/silver now.

I’m really upset about the new stretch marks that I have gained, because I feel I had enough of them on me already! and also because they are new they are pink/purple and stand out so much more compared to white faded ones.

I need to lose about 3 to 4 stone. I am hoping that losing that weight will make the new stretch marks fade and not look so harsh.

I know they will never go away. But I do hope that after losing the weight they will look “better”.

    Crystal

Stretch marks should be treated as medals. These marks are evident that you have gained and thus your workout was a success.

  24. TLLNo Gravatar says:

Hi Israel I think there’s a cosmetic procedure for that. In our area we have a beauty clinic that treats stretch marks. You can have the stretch marks zapped with the help of laser. The treatment usually lasts for 5-8 minutes and is pain-free.

  25. DeanNo Gravatar says:

I did the same thing, put on a lot of weight when i was 17-18 got the marks to prove it, lost it all, toned up the stomach, they’re still there but very light, plus ive got body hair coverin them up a bit, so its not all bad.

I was worried at first that girls would be repulsed by the sight, but they never properly notice, so its all good.

  26. salNo Gravatar says:

    Hey everyone,

back in HS, i was very depressed and i used to eat out with my GF all the time, and i gained alot of weight

the next summer, i lost nearly 30-40 lbs and i started getting stretch marks all over my chests, biceps, sides of my abdomen..

ive been repulsed by them for years, they have faded now to a white color, i have dark brown skin

i’ve tried looking for all sorts of cures and remedies and seen many dermatologists

but they all said getting rid of stretch marks is futile. (sorry to break anyones hopes)

this too got me depressed and after a while i lost all sefl confidence and everything and now

now i realized that ONCE YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL BODY, WORK OUT, USE LOTS OF MOISTERIZER AND CARRY YOUR SELF WELL,

the stretch marks are not there, who cares if you have them all over your body, make sure ur body looks like something from a GQ magazine or like bradd pitt from fight club

just moisterize and hydrate yourself, if you have a sexy body, will stretch marks take it away??

  27. PhilNo Gravatar says:

Stretch marks are just natural. If people think they’re gross then they pretty much think the processes of nature are gross and that’s just dumb. I started getting them in 9th grade when I started to get taller. I have them on my back, on my butt and thighs and even on my knees. I used to be so deppressed about them and i wouldn’t dare show my legs because of them but i eventually realized that i was letting them get to me and get in the way of my life and i refused to let them get in the way of anything anymore. people shouldn’t take themselves too seriously. just live your life.

  28. Hi Israel
I had to look seriously close to find the stretch marks they are not at all obvious. I think that getting a tan helps – I have some post pregnancy and they are not so obvious when you’ve either been in the sun or had some fake tan applied or sprayed on. I’ve also heard that solar oil from CND, although essentailly a nail product, can help a little. sam x

  29. man ya stretch marks suck, i heard vitamin e and coconut oil help, i generally use them when i’m gaining weight

  30. Depressed GuyNo Gravatar says:

Yours aren’t so bad. Mine are literally 10 times worse. Like you, I was in great shape throughout my youth until I got into bad habits in early college. I gained a lot of weight and the stretch marks started coming in droves. This started a spiral of deep depression that I never got out of. I would lose some weight, see some new stretch marks, eventually let up after losing 20-30 lbs., and gain it all back gradually. I never really gained weight in huge spurts, so I figured my skin would be fine because it wasn’t being taxed too hard. I was wrong! Now as I sit here in the latter half of 2009, my stretch marks cover my armpits, my abdomen (some measure 13+ inches like a striped tiger), my back and my lower groin. They are truly hideous. I look like I’ve had multiple children. I wouldn’t even DREAM of pursuing a lady friend because of how mortified I am of my ruined body. And in fact, I haven’t. I haven’t dated anyone in 5+ years. I’ve almost given up. I look for inspiration everywhere, and I get excited and want to change, but I find it is all very fleeting.

Wow, this has been a serious WALL of text, but I had to get it off my chest.

Keep up the good work, you are getting there!

    • Mine were really bad. I had them all dark across my sides. When I first saw them I was devastated…disgusted.

Now they have lightened up, but they are still there. I’m not worrying about them any more since what is done is done. I am focusing on what I can control, not what I cant. That’s how I’, tackling my stretch mark situation. Use that depression as fuel brother!

i am 17 going on 18 ang i am about 30 kilos overweight.i have stretch marks ALL OVER MY BODY, but what bothers me the most is my arms, they look literally hudious. i have long white stretch marks all over them, the upper and under, until the elbow. and they are white, yet so noticable, i swear i haven’t shown my arms to any person for years now even ma mom. i get so embarresed by them and constantly cover them, so they don’t get ANY sunlight.
it makes me feel awful whenever i take a glance on them, i have other over weight friends even more than me but they don’t have my stretch marks.
and i keep thinking if they disgust me that much, what about my partner??
i am a young girl and i am wasting all my good years. i just want to be a normal person.
iam recently starting my new diet but every time i remember they are not going away i hate myself. i wanna know if turning white is the last stage of stretch marks or what, cuz in my case they are white but looks awful.

To be honest though I would rather a girl have some strecth marks because it would make it more comfrontable for both the guy n girl, even though it shouldn’t matter at all if you have them or not, if I didn’t have strecth marks I wouldn’t care one bit if my girl had them what so ever.

When I was a young teenager I was a bit plump then I broke my leg and arm back to back and I went though I growth spurt at the same time. Also I was depressed and nobody cared about my overeating, anyway… I got real bad stetch marks everywhere you have them and maybe even more places than you. Do you have them on your pelvis like under the underwear elastic. How about your calves, armpits, thighs, upper butt, ribcage? I do. My worse ones are under my arm pit, and the leg equavilent (legpit). Good news though, I lost 80 pounds and over the years the marks turned white (less noticable. My confidence is still horrible though with hot girls. You see with my clothes on I look like I’m in great shape. Sometimes they give me signals yet naked under the unforgiving light those emotional battle scars show what I once was and I’m afraid their a big turn off even white. I could on the other hand if it became a real problem get a spray tan which would make them almost invisuable. My point it don’t regret anything that made you what you are because confidence more than anything else is attractive, shit I’ve kept it a secret for years now.

  36. JudyNo Gravatar says:

Red/purple large stretch marks are a sign of a serious disease that can make you gain weight. It is called Cushings disease. It occurs if you take steroids or you have a tumor that makes too much steroid. If you have stretchmarks like that and aren’t taking steroids, you need to see a doctor. You have a medical problem

  37. JohnNo Gravatar says:

Honestly man don’t worry about the marks. Most people have them, and its just a sign that your human. I have some on my arms from when I gained a few pounds of muscle, and some on my hips from growing, I think.

Anyways there are plenty of options to make them disappear, you can use lotions, tan, get a tattoo, get laser surgery, and a few other ways. If you don’t plan on taking your shirt off a ton you can get henna (its like a tattoo but fades after a month), use makeup, or even pick out clothing which hides them.

Now days everyone wants the perfect body so there are hundreds of ways out there to hide any imperfections. The reality is no one really cares about how you look, unless your trying to pick up some really shallow girls in which case just hide them. Its just a part of being human I guess (40% of men, and 70% of women get them).

  38. M.No Gravatar says:

I have also have a lot of marks, ive had them since i was a young girl, I used to do lots of sport and gained them on my arms and on my thighs. But since I had my first child who was 9lbs 5oz I have had really bad deep thick ones on my belly. Im talking 2 inchs across here. Although creams help with the little ones, it doesn’t even touch the bigger ones.

Ive lost nearly 2 stone but this has not helped how deep and wide those ones are. It does get me down, considering that I complained about little ones on my arms and legs as a kid and now I got even more and even grewsome ones on my tummy. They are so bad that hair hardly grows on them.

I will never have a tummy tuck as my marks go from my breasts to my groin. So I would be replacing one grewsome marks for another.

Congrats on your weight loss man. Keep it up. I’m trying to do the opposite though…bulk up to your size now. At 5’10, 238lbs lifting and eating heavy I don’t have stretch marks yet. As of right now, I wouldn’t mind having a couple. But once I get them I may feel differently about that. I know a few guys that have them and they’re like “trophies” (2 of these guys aren’t all muscle either). But a lot of people don’t like them, including my wife. Anyway, if I make it to 280lbs and still don’t have any stretchmarks, I’ll consider myself lucky. Again congrats.

  42. Dude why don’t you try that bio oil?

  43. Congratulations on the weight loss my friend.
If you want to further lose weight, you should try eating protein rich food like red meat and hard boiled eggs. There are also a lot that can be found just in your kitchen.
Also, try eating food that are rich in vitamin B and C. These vitamins can help you increase your thyroid hormones and metabolism

  45. Stretch Marks cure when redNo Gravatar says:

Hey israel and everyone if your marks are red-purple-brown-dark there is hope!

I had them and immediately got treatment by a local ethetician who worked on my sides-hips-inner thighs and armpits which got stretch marks and fresh. 70% glycolic acid and CP serum plus microdermabrasion and using a micro cloth daily.

I got rid of my stretch marks- completely 100% in 4 months. My skin became darker where the marks were and around like bruising but after 6 months I was 100%. No more marks and it cost me about 4,000 for all the sessions and take home work. I worked on my stretch marks 2 hrs a day.

THERE IS HOPE I lost the entire weight I gained and my body is back to normal.

    I learned a BIG lesson.

Strechmarks are your biggest regret? Im full of strechmarks I was so overweight and all the strechmarks put me in to bodybuidling and I start losing weight and building muscle and now I have a fit body I still get strechmarks but nothing to do instead of being fat or being skinny I prefere being a bodybuilder with strechmarks πŸ˜‰

I have the most horrible stretch marks a man can have.
They are literally all over my body, my shoulders, arms, even fore arms, stomach, sides, just above ass crack, thighs, chest(breast) and groin area.

I am not even that big, there is guys way bigger than me that don’t have it and may I add I started getting these from a young age about the age of 8 and now 10 years later they are still growing trying to make me spider-man with all those ugly lines. I can’t even count the number of stretchmarks I have, I would say over a 1000 more or less.

I can’t enjoy my life, it’s not like I dont have other problems; I am overweight(NOT EXTREME), I got a masturbation addiction and I am depressed properly cause of those things. So yeah it really sucks to be me. Everyday I wish for that I could go back to being a kid.

Life scares me because of the situation, I don’t know what to do, will I ever be married, fine a good job and live happy? I ask myself that all the time.

It sucks so bad and has ruined my life and I have many years a head of me I hope but there is no hope maybe in the future there will be ways to remove them.
