Supplementing with a Fat Burner

Metabodrene 356 Fat BurnerI have decided to implement a small change. I started taking a fat burner supplement. It’s supposed to be be an herbal formula that is designed for “optimal diet and energy.” I’m going to be the judge of that. I have a few bottles of fat burners and metabolism boosters to choose from, but I’m going to go with this one first. It’s only a 30 day supply, so it gives me enough time to test it out.

In the past I have taken Hydroxycut and Xenadrine, but they made me feel too “wired.” I wasn’t able to go to sleep until late at night too. I guess that’s what ecstasy feels like. I wouldn’t know though. This time around I have chosen to try Metabodrene 356, with 10mg Ephedra Extract. It’s comparable to Metabolife 356. I usually go for name brand supplements, but it was free so I can’t complain. Thanks Armando, ;). Some of it’s active ingredients are: Ephedra (Ma Huang) extract, (ephedrine group alkaloids) aerial part, Magnesium, Vitamin E, Zinc, and Chromium. It has a “Proprietary Blend” of Guarana (Seed), Bee Pollen, Eleuthro (root), Ginger (root), Lecithin Damiana (leaf), Sarsaparilla (root), Goldenseal (whole plant), Nettle (leaf), Gotu Kola (aerial part), Spirulina, and Royal Jelly. I may have spelled some of those wrong, so don’t shoot me if I did.

It’s supposed to make you burn fat, but we shall see. I don’t think I have a problem with burning fat once I get into a routine, but every bit helps. It’s good to keep in mind that supplements are just that, supplements. They shouldn’t be considered the end all be all for weight loss. It’s good to consult a professional before incorporating any new weight loss supplements into your diet.

I had initially started out taking a fat burner and energy supplement, but decided to wait until I hit a wall. While I haven’t hit a wall yet physically, I feel like I have hit a wall mentally. I’m certain this will kick start my motivation, sort of like a placebo effect. That’s the main reason I’m taking these. This is the first of a few different weight loss and fat burner supplements I plan on taking over the next few months. I will let you guys know if I notice any changes over the next 30 days.

Have any of you taken any fat burner supplements? If so, which and what effects did you have?

      yeah..

The FDA appealed this ruling, and on August 17, 2006 the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit upheld the FDA’s ban of ephedra. As of June 2007, the sale of ephedra-containing dietary supplements remains illegal in the United States due to their health risks.

  2. I have used fat-burners in the past, while doing a Body For Life challenge. I lost twenty pounds. Several years later, I put about ten pounds back on. I decided not to take any supplements to lose the weight and in took a long time to convince myself I could do it without “help”.

I guess my message is, while supplements may help speed things along (pun intended), they can also breed dependency. You tend to give them more credit for your success than they deserve and you begin to believe you need them to succeed.

    Just my .02.

  3. Hi Israel–
Not sure about fat-burners–seems like if there’s enough active ingredients in them to work, then there’s enough to mess with your system in some unpredictable way, but then I’m a chicken when it comes to taking stuff!

Anyway, I’ve been trying to return your email but it keeps bouncing. Is there a better way to email you back than hitting “reply?”

Or maybe if you email again from a different address? It seems to think I’m sending you junk mail!

I used to use Hydroxycut back before they had to change the forumla for legal reasons. I was already into a good routine and wanted to crank it up a notch. They gave me more energy, but I didn’t notice any changes as far as my body weight or tone. After awhile, they no longer gave me energy; a buddy of mine suggested I double to dose, as he had the same problem. Big mistake! I was always nervious, on edge, and couldn’t sit still. I knew I was in trouble when I was in a management meeting at work and I was asked what was wrong with me. I never took them again.

is a drug man. some kids died from it. your body got used to your initial dose, you should have gotten off of it. its good to cycle it if you want, but i only plan on using up wha ti have and not buying any more.

    A few words of caution…

    1. Make sure to cycle on and off them regularly. When I use them I limit myself to taking them only 3-4 days each week and a week off at the end of the month. Why? Your body builds up a resistance to the compounds and you have to take more and more pills to get the same effect. Not cool.

    2. Watch out, they can crash your immune system. All the caffeine and such in them can play havoc on your immune system and you could end up sick! This is best avoided by limiting the number of times per week you take them. Consider limiting them to 3-4 times a week and rarely taking them on consecutive days.

    3. Don’t expect a lot. At most they give you a slight edge, but that is all. But I doubt I have to tell you that hard work and a strict diet are MUCH more important and effective.

Also, the kind I use is made by EAS and it is called ThermoDynamX. It is pretty good.

    Weightloss Cake
High in protein, vitamins, and minerals.

    4 cups water

6 cups organic millet flour, soy, spelt, or whole wheat.

1/3 cup organic flaxseed meal flour

    1 cup canola oil organic

    8 oz. honey

    1tsp seasalt

    1tsp cinnamon

    1tsp ground nutmeg

    2 tsp baking powder (non-aluminum)

You may also add apricots, raisins, chopped walnuts, or almonds.

Baking: Mix ingredients. Grease and lightly flour cooking pan. Pour batter into pan 1/2 inch thick over base. Bake at 300 degrees for one hour. After, let in oven until it cools.

    Cut into 2in.x2in. squares.

This cake is rich in phosphorous potassium, iron, calcium, manganese, and other minerals.

There are different ways to eat weightloss cake:

    Plan A.

Eat 1 piece every 5 hours of the 16 hours you’re awake. That is 3 pieces which total 300 calories. This is the fastest way to lose weight that I know of. It works faster than any high protein diet. Why? You have more energy and burn more calories. Second, the high fiber cake keeps your diegestive system regular. Third, your body stays healthy. A healthy body means a properly functioning metabolic system.

    Plan B.

Really gorge yourself with the cake. Two pieces every four hours for a total of eight pieces which would be only 800 calories. You’ll feel full all day. In fact, I doubt many people could eat this much of the cake.

    Plan C.

Eat a piece in the morning for breakfast and a piece 3 hours before your dinner and you will eat a great deal less.

    Plan D.

Eat a piece of weightloss cake, 10 minutes before you eat your regular meal. When we do this we eat only a fraction, such as 1/4 of what we would normally eat.

  9. Not sure what your feeling is on ephedra, but, they are allowing it back into the marketplace. For how long, who knows. I loved hydroxycut w/ ephedra!!

  10. Supplements will help you a lot but there’s a risk. I tried Hydroxycut before same effect with you guys. I wasn’t able to go to sleep too.

    • IsraelNo Gravatar says:

Yeh, that same ingredient is what makes you “go” and get energy for your workouts and fat burning. But if the pills are taken too late in the day, you suffer.

  11. NickNo Gravatar says:

Be careful with Ephedra.. It is not good on the heart. Any stimulant diet pill is not good for the heart. See here for some side effects.. (http://www.ephedrine-news.com/html/effects.html).

When I played ball some of us used to try different ‘supplements’ before games to get the extra boost of energy. I stopped after the second time when all of us felt like the inside of our body were crawling out of us at halftime.

I wouldn’t recommend weight loss pills or metabolism boosters because they are all BS and have not been proven to be safe or effective.

The best thing I have found to do when you feel like you are hitting that wall mentally or physically is to completely change up your workout routine. It helps shock the body and keeps you from adapting to the same workout.

For a real kick in the balls get up 6 am 4 times a week and do HIIT cardio. (HIIT = high intensity interval training… balls out for 30 seconds, walk it for 60 – 90 ) Run stairs and do plyos. Then lift in the afternoon. It is a hectic schedule but do it for a month and I guarantee that you will break through whatever wall you have hit. Then switch it up again.

I’m disabled (quad), and was overweight. I considered trying a similar product to help boost my metabolic system, but became ill soon after I had the idea and lost tons of weight that way (not healthy). So I never tried anything out.

Very curious to read about your results, as I have other dangerously overweight friends (also with my condition) who are considering going this route. I’ll be checking back in to see your results.

    • IsraelNo Gravatar says:

Jeremy, thanks for stopping by. I have had to discontinue taking any supplements until my follow up appointment tomorrow with my doctor. I will be asking him if its okay to resume taking them.

  13. DanNo Gravatar says:

Supplements herbal or otherwise in most cases can lead to a nasty side effect.
Eating less gradually and exercing if the body permits is the most effective form of losing weight

I was taking hydroxycut for about 2 years and it was keeping me at the same wieght. i started taking lipo6x for about 2 years and it slimmed me down quick. only problem now my liver is failing do to the supplements i was taking.

Fat burners don’t burn fat, they just burn out your adrenal system. It is a multi billion $ scam! You’re wasting your money.

Make appropriate diet changes and get in your metabolic resistance training and cardio intervals.

Always select your fat loss supplements carefully and follow a healthy program of diet and exercise to go with your fat burners.

There are a few diet supplements that work well but diet and exercise should always be the 1st priority.
