A Fun Activity Will Keep You Slim47 lbs LOSTso farDecember 1, 2007 by Tomer | 19 comments

As any trainer would tell you - the best fat burner is cardio. Jogging is great - but for some reason, I never had the motivation to jog on a daily basis, it’s just too boring. Swimming was another option I tried - but after a while I couldn’t help myself, as the jacuzzi was a few feet away. I would swim a few laps and jump in the tub - stay there for a bit and go home. If you have the personal motivation to do these things regularly, good job, but I don’t. I needed something that I could keep on doing - why would I want to keep doing it? It needed to be fun. The solution that worked for me - Tennis. I barely think about it as an exercise, but rather as an activity I await doing.

Last summer I used to play Tennis all the time with my older brother. Started playing again a few days ago and suddenly remembered why I loved the game so much - the thrill and power you feel when smacking an ace, nothing like it. I was never someone who sweat heavily, but yesterdays game really got me dripping. Especially when we were in a tense doubles match with a few friends, I wanted to get the most out of the match, so I kinda jog in place while waiting for a hit and try to run around a lot.

The morning after - the tense muscles. I know this part is supposed to be unpleasant, but truth is - kinda fun to have those muscle aches. Not sure why, one of those weird things, like peeling glue off your fingers, it just feels good. So even though my ass hurts when sitting, it was well worth it. :)

Here’s a small plug for my website - if anyone needs some perfumes & colognes, take a look at Aromazing.com

That’s it from me - Tomer out.

Yeah Tennis is a good option. Need to play for twice as long to get the same effects, but a 1.5 hour game of tennis will give you what a 45min run does. I am bad at tennis, I have a court and a brother always keen to play, but my lack of skill some how out weighs it as I don’t find it fun.

Maybe I need to get some practice in and then it will be a good workout option for me too

I suck at Tennis too. I am at least a below average player. I joined the tennis team in college for the challenge, I lost every match.

I never could jog daily for weight loss. I always found myself more on track when I did fun stuff like biking. For weight loss most people need weight loss tips and advice from fitness experts or a doctor.

Sore muscles are good because it means you are doing something right ;) Keep up the good work and I agree jogging can get really boring, so playing a sport, like tennis, is a great way to mix it up

Soreness can be both good and bad.

I play tennis, and I get all wet within a minute, it amazing how a simple ball can make you move that much. And the hitting movement it’s very complex.

The hitting movement is complex, a lot harder than it looks.

Hey Israel…completely agree. I enjoy riding my bicycle….I can cover a ton of ground in a hurry, it’s great exercise and it’s fun. I enjoy rather than dread it.

Have a great weekend.

Tennis is a great sport to play. When i was younger i used to play with my friend everyday in the summer, we were lucky as we lived near a tennis court and play some really long games. But yes i think if you do find something which is fun, thats an excellent way to keep slim.

Yeah the tennis court I’m talking about is on my block. Free access 24/7 with lighting at night. So that’s great, when Everytime i’m in the city [when I was in NY], I’m always surprised to see all the courts there cost money.

Gotta love suburbia. :)

I had a great start with tennis. I hit all three balls over the fence twice in a row and quit. I then picked up racquetball. I loved it, I could hit the ball as hard as I wanted and win doing it…

I eventually came back to tennis after learning how to hit the ball and love it. I tweaked my ankle about two years ago and could not play/walk for months, torn tendons w/ or w/o insurance cost too much. I need to get back into it, well once weather permits here in NC.

I have been doing this manual labor type stuff with these houses and it has been a great work out. Carrying 5 gallon buckets full of mortar, air compressors, and the like up stairs really works the whole body. My only problem has been controling the diet. I eat good, but some days I will eat heavy expecting the work out then end up doing paper work and I don’t feel good afterwards. Anyhow, I am making money off of my workouts.

I wish I could make myself jog. I used to and it was the only thing that seemed to melt away the belly fat. You’d that would be reason enough to keep it up, but truly, I loath it and can’t make myself do it most of the time.

I understand, sometimes it can get pretty mundane.

Yeah exactly - even with music, which helps, but not ALL the way, if you know what I mean. Then I had that time when I thought a treadmill would solve this. “I’ll just watch T.V. and forget I’m running” but it was never like this.

It’s like: “lets see you tell jokes while running Conan!” hehe

Yeah.. the best things to get exercise is making fun out of it. liking playing you’re favorite sports would be the best getting drip about it.

Video games can be a fun exercising too. There are many exercising video games for the different consoles and for PC.

Exercise and diet are both important. The main thing is to just do something! But many “experts” pass out a lot of misinformation.

    • My name is Israel. I used to be the kind of guy that was always in shape: a gym rat. But over the last few years I have fallen off tremendously. This is my final attempt to get back into shape and get to where I once was using this weight loss blog as my main tool.
