Fiji Water - The New Player in the Bottled Water Craze41.2 lbs LOSTso farFebruary 16, 2008 by Israel Lagares | 17 comments
Everywhere I go I see Fiji bottled water. What’s so great about it besides it being more expensive than other bottled water? I must admit that at first this was going to be a rant about how I can’t stand bottled water companies, but after reading through the beautifully designed Fiji Water web site and doing some deeper research, I had to change my tune. Well, I think I did. I was out to crush Fiji Water, but now have a better understanding of it.
Water is water. Right? When I think of things like this, I always think back to prehistoric days. I try and compare my daily habits with what cavemen might have done. I like to believe that cavemen would have just drank water from a stream. Simple. If it’s clear, it’s drinkable. But Fiji does a good job at educating it’s visitors. The site is full of information regarding the different water types of bottled water, health benefits of water, and why they think Fiji water is second to none.
Fiji says it uses water that has not touched open air. Ever! To understand this you first need to know what artesian water is. So what is artesian water? Simply put, it’s rain water that is sealed deep beneath layers of the Earth’s surface, hasn’t been exposed to the environment, and can only be brought to the surface by man. According to their site, the only time Fiji artesian water comes in contact with the air we breathe is when a person first opens a bottle that they have purchased. Pretty hard to believe right? I’m a skeptic. But this non-human contact is what they pride themselves in. It’s what they use as their main marketing point.
I haven’t tasted Fiji water, but I know many who have. They swear by it. Some stores around here (Florida) charge way too much for it. I can only imagine what cities in New York and California charge. You can also buy it in bulk from the Fiji Water web site. I bet you could do the same on eBay, but cheaper. I plan on buying a single bottle of Fiji Water this weekend and drinking it for the first time on camera for my weekly video blog. We will see if the water is what it’s hyped up to be. My reaction will say it all.
Fiji reminds me of the bottled water craze a few years back. I remember seeing Evian, Poland Spring and a slew of other bottled water companies emerging. All of the upscale folks would pay big bucks for a bottle of water, most of which has turned out to just be tap water re-bottled. Living in NYC, I have always been comfortable drinking water from the tap. NYC’s water is purified by one of the best water purification systems in the state of New York. It wasn’t until I moved to Florida that I had to start paying for drinking water. The tap water in Florida has no fluoride and contains a lot of chlorine. It tastes horrible. So we get water for our water dispenser from the local Sweet Bay Supermarket. My wife insists on buying bottled water for work. She isn’t too picky on which we get, but will refuse to drink Nestle or Zephyrhills brand water.
At the end of the day, water is water and I drink tons of it.

Springtime Detoxification41.2 lbs LOSTso farFebruary 6, 2008 by Israel Lagares | 10 comments
Although the grey days of late-winter seem to be endless, Spring is approaching very fast. In no time we will switch from knitted sweaters and stuffed jackets to easy-breezy skirts and tight shorts.
So what is your reaction when you realize that your favorite pairs of cotton pants don’t fit you any more? Of course your first reaction is panic and depression. But as most of the times, nature comes to your aid only if you are willing to accept her help.
The markets are filled with fruits and vegetables so all you have to do is commit yourself to a natural detoxicating diet. This will help you loose those few pounds of overweight or just give you a boost of energy by cleansing your body of toxins. This extra energy will also help your immune system fight back those nasty viruses of flue that wake up with the thaw of winter.
Plus a fruits and veggies diet aids natural weight loss and if done in a balanced way it will not have any negative side effects like many chemical dietary supplements or diet pills do.
Fruits and vegetables contain lots of vitamins and minerals but you will have to pay attention to consume enough proteins and salt as well. So it is not about starvation, or thirst. Actually the diet is not going to do you any good if you don’t drink enough liquids.
Another useful tip might be to serve your salad in blue colored dishes as this color is proven to diminish your appetite.
If you are having lunch at your workplace, make yourself a light salad of veggies and add some tuna or steamed chicken-breast to make it more satisfying.
If you get hungry between meals, munch on an apple, carrot, a few nuts, and some dried or frozen fruits instead of having bakery goods which fill you up but don’t keep you running for too long.

Eating to Lose Weight41.2 lbs LOSTso farJanuary 22, 2008 by Israel Lagares | 20 comments
That’s right. You heard me say it: eating to lose weight. I’ll say it one more time to let it sink in: eating to lose weight.
Now why in the world would someone eat to lose weight? Well, here’s the secret: It’s not the amount of food really, but the number of times. Let’s look over a couple of myths so I can explain it to you a little better:
1. “You have to eat less to lose weight.” If you’re downing a gallon of milk with a bag of cookies, then yeah, it’s time to cut back some. However, if you’re eating sensibly and not losing weight if you’re overweight, then it’s probably when and how often. Your stomach is like a log fire. Keep logs on it and it keeps burning (calories), but if you let it go out, it takes forever to get it going again. So you need to eat smaller meals but more often in the day, like 5 or 6 times. What’s good is 3 regular meals and 2 to 3 snacks. If you drink plenty of water with each meal and spread them out, then you’ll feel full most of the day and your metabolism will run like crazy, burning the heck out of calories. Snacks should be slightly smaller than meals.
2. “You have to eat vegetables or food that tastes bad to lose weight.” Veggies are good for you, sure. But they are not a necessity to losing weight. I eat pizza once a week. I also have hamburgers and fries. And I’ve lost over 70 pounds so far from diet alone. If you don’t get enough vegetables, then hopefully you’re at least taking a decent multivitamin. The main thing to remember is to not go nuts. Limit your portions. Don’t eat an entire medium pizza. Eat a personal size pizza or 1 or 2 slices of the medium instead. The cool thing is you get to do it again in about 2 hours.
Eating food makes the body burn calories. Eating too much food makes it store fat. However, eating small amounts throughout the day keeps it burning calories even when you’re sleeping. When I first started my diet, I’d go to bed and wake up 5 pounds lighter. Sure, I weighed 355 pounds so that much came off easily, but it was purely by diet changes. Don’t let your “log fire” burn out and you’ll be shedding pounds fast without very much work at all. When that stops working, then you will need the exercise to lose weight. But you’ll be in better shape and able to handle the exercise easier.

5 Ways To Keep Your Resolution41.2 lbs LOSTso farJanuary 1, 2008 by IronGuru | 10 comments
Everyone knows what the New Year means, and to be brutally blunt … it means failed dreams. Everyone hopes to change something about themselves, or make their lives a little better in some way, shape, or form with their resolution. Myself, personally, this year I just hope to do better than I did last. That’s all I ever make for a resolution, because I know I can stick to it.
Many people set unrealistic, and unachievable goals. Corporations, small-town gyms, health food stores, supplement stores, and most everyone else loves New Years for the reason that thousands of people are going to be buying new products, gym memberships, more “whole” or “organic” foods, and all this spins into people buying exercise equipment, clothing, shoes - everything that goes along with their resolutions.
Now, what happens to each and every one of these cardio-bunnies and wanna-be gym rats that show up for the first few weeks of the New Year? Well, besides the fact they take up space in the gym? … after the 15th or 20th of January rolls around, you never see these people again
And why is that?
They wanted to get “fit” or “sexy” in the New Year! I am going to share some ideas that everyone can follow to make sure that in 2008, they exceed their goals and prepare themselves for a even better 2009!
- Set an attainable goal!
I hate to be rude, and blunt, but if someone 150lbs overweight they probably won’t have a bikini-body for June. Instead, why not look better in current swimwear/clothing? Shedding 20, 30, or even 50lbs between now and then will make a HUGE difference to outward appearance. - Stay simple, get back to the basics.
As I repeatedly say in my articles, the simplest answer is usually the right one. Don’t make things more complicated than they need to be, if all a person does this year is cut their calorie intake by 1/3rd, do some easy cardio (walk an hour a day), and get the right amount of sleep - change will happen. These are easy goals, that hour walk might be 30 minute walk to work and back home? The hardest part is usually putting down the Cola and getting off the couch. - Find a partner!
No, this isn’t saying sign up at a new dating site … finding a workout partner is a great way to motivate yourself, because when my workout partner is too lazy to get up it does not only affect them, but my own workouts as well. I need a strong, dependable, and most of all - a workout partner I can trust. I put my life into their hands, imagine getting stuck under a 315lb bench press or quadruple digits on a leg press machine, very unsafe if I can’t squeeze out that last rep and get caught at the bottom, or half way. - Track progress
Many, many, many websites out there offer some form of logging or tracking of workouts. There are a few reasons I do this - for one, it keeps me honest. It’s also very inspiring, when you have a group of people following your workouts and they leave comments or suggestions. My personal motto is to better myself everytime I step into the gym, if I did not do more reps or more weight than the last time I did that exercise … I failed myself. The only way I know this is if I keep a log, I use the bodybuilding forums at IronMass, which is a very supportive community for beginners, with veteran fitness enthusiasts and beginners all helping each other. - Use a mirror, not a scale!
When someone says they lost some fat, or weight, people immediately ask “How much?” - well, that’s not always correct. What if you lost 15lbs of fat, but gained 5lbs of muscle? You really only lost 10lbs, but the muscle you put on will help incinerate even more fat. I generally step on the scale twice a month, the 1st and 15th. I keep track of this, and always weigh in at the same time of day (ie: right after I wake up, use the bathroom, and hop onto the scale before I get into the shower — naked, no extra weight just me). This gets rid of any fluids, or solids, you may have in your body that can affect the weight +/- a pound or two. That’s enough to not see a change between weeks, and make some people want to quit. That’s not the case, weight fluctuates depending on dozens of factors and may go up and down from Breakfast to Noon. Watch the trend — if I’m losing weight for 6 straight weigh-ins I figure I’m doing something right, but if I jump up a pound on my next weigh in - I won’t freak out, and wait 2 weeks and see where I am the next time. If I’m up more than a pound or two, then it’s probably time to change things up.
So with that all said; apply these very, very basic principles to your 2008 Resolutions (and comment with what yours is!) and I’ll see you at the beach!

New Year’s Resolution: Kick Start Fat and Weight Loss41.2 lbs LOSTso farDecember 30, 2007 by Dennis | 24 comments
Let’s face it, you’re lazy. I’m lazy. We are all lazy. That is the first step in ultimate healing and change: acknowledgment. Now let us start the cycle of change with a little help from some weight loss catalysts. Here are some awesome fire starters that will ignite your internal body furnace and get the fat loss abilities that are innate to your body activated. No wimps allowed with these fat loss tips, so toughen up!
Fat Loss Tip # 1
The Morning After Pill: Your A.M. PRE-BRUSH Routine
Before you brush your teeth or hair, make sure to turn on your body’s engine. Don’t sneak in breakfast before this routine either, an empty stomach is better. As soon you roll out of bed stand up, spread your legs a little wider than shoulder length apart and reach up for the sky. Get a good stretch in this manner and re-align your bones and awaken your muscles. After that do this speedy day starter routine:
- Perform 25 shoulder width push ups
- Perform 25 close grip push ups
- Perform 20 Crunches
- Perform 20 weight-less Squats, use a broom stick if you like
- Perform 20 more Crunches
- Perform 20 Jumping Jacks
- Perform 15 Push ups, your choice of type
- Perform 20 more Crunches
- Perform 20 more Jumping Jacks
- Perform 20 more Squats
- Perform a Shower Marine!
NOTE: Perform all these exercises consecutive with as little rest as possible, 30 seconds at maximum. The point of the Morning After is kick start your day with a major sweat. You are starting your body’s fire on an empty stomach.
Fat Loss Tip # 2
Consume Fire Starter Foods
Proper ignition is key in any fire. Same holds true with getting your metabolism rolling towards optimal weight loss. So with that being said, implement these seldom considered diet and health aides.
- Cayenne – Simply put, Cayenne is pure gun powder. It pops viruses out your system and fortifies your little immune system soldiers. On top of that overall health benefit Cayenne is a metabolic dynamo, it’ll make you sweat and remember sweat is GOOD!Try to consume two teaspoons daily. Whether you mix it your vegetables or dump it on top of a chicken breast, no matter, just bury it down the hatchet.
- Ginger – Hard training can put a strain on your immune system. It is not uncommon for individuals pushing themselves hard during weight loss training to come down with nasty viral infections. The reason is simple: you are taken your body where it hasn’t been before and this shock to the system can leave your immune system reeling and open for invasion. This is where Ginger can aid. Ginger is a stomach healer. Ginger will calm down even the most upset stomachs. Besides its tummy benefits it soothes the throat. And if that weren’t enough, yes Ginger does get your metabolism activated. Burning calories and keeping them burning are what Ginger can do. Buy at least 2 pounds of Ginger. Take those two pounds and boil it in half a gallon of water (get the big pot from grandma) for 6 minutes on high. Let it sit for 9 minutes and pour into a big pitcher. Drink at least 3 cups a day. Chill it and bring it to work. As an added bonus Ginger kills yucky mouth germs!
- Lemon – Add it to water and let it cut the grease in your body. Lemons are a known catalyst in fat melting. Consume at least half a lemon a day and you could burn off a pound a week! Squeeze a lemon on your salad or over your chicken breast. I tend not to over recommend lemon because of the latest trend of individuals developing “Acid reflux” and other esophageal issues. I personally believe these people are predisposed because of years of damage with the consumption of fake, preservative filled juices. But nevertheless don’t let me get side tracked…this is a no wimps edition! Eat lemons and burn fat every second. The vitamin C laden lemon will also provide muscle and immune system support. So get sour and fit.
Fat Loss Tip # 3
Take on a Full Contact Approach
Fighting burns calories and that cannot be denied. An intense bout that utilizes all the limbs lasting 45 minutes can burn 1600 calories! But before you jump in the ring and get yourself knocked out perhaps consider investing in a pair of 16 ounce boxing gloves and a heavy bag. You can pound away your aggression, just imagine it’s your boss’s face (or your mother in law, ladies). Start out with a quick 3 minute shadow boxing warm up. Next, start pounding the heavy bag. Go at it for an intense 10 minutes and even get your elbow and knees involved for some vicious strikes. Eventually after four weeks work your way up to 20 minutes of pounding, just be careful not to slip on all the sweat that will be pouring out of you.

Green Tea Is Nature’s Masterpiece41.2 lbs LOSTso farDecember 21, 2007 by Israel Lagares | 4 comments
The building blocks of your success during weight loss will have to begin with a superior force of nature. First and foremost you will need the force of nature that is within yourself: your inner warrior or warrior princess. Second, you will need a sword. Just kidding. But why not have an awesome food source that fuels you, clears your mind, induces thermogenesis, gets you to use the bathroom more routinely, and is dirt cheap? Yes folks I am speaking of the undisputed king of foods, the amazing green tea.
Green tea is a catalyst in weight loss because simply put it ignites the furnace in your body. That furnace is called thermogenesis and is responsible for calorie burning. The bigger and more intense your thermogenic level the more calories you will burn. Individuals in optimum physical shape have extremely high thermogenic levels and burn calories 24 hours a day, even during sleep. That is what we want to harness people! We want to create an internal body wild-fire that will burn the fuel we ingest more effectively.
It doesn’t hurt that green tea also contains ultra powerful anti-oxidants. The roster of health optimizing components in green tea is quite impressive. L-Theanine has anti-stress benefits, EGCG is an anti-inflammatory, polyphenols aid in fat oxidization. Green tea has even been credited with warding off cancer, heart disease, and even arthritis. Every person alive should consume the stuff, especially those looking to reduce fat in the body.
So here’s the plan: start off with a cup in the morning right after breakfast. Hold off drinking before breakfast as the detoxifying nature of green tea can cause nausea in some individuals with weaker stomachs. I, on the other hand, can consume the magic potion on an empty stomach. Follow that with a cup prior and after lunch. Repeat the prior and after technique for dinner as well. That is a total of five cups a day. Stick to that amount for about six days and then add a cup a day thereafter. We are trying to initiate and attack your metabolism and program it to cleanse and burn fat.
Some people think that the right way to drink green tea is to squeeze lemon in it, doubling the tea’s effectiveness. If you feel the urge to spice up the flavor of the green tea please limit your options to half a teaspoon of honey. And under no circumstances should you use sugar or any poisons such as sugar substitutes, because REFINED, PROCESSED, OR LAB DESIGNED sugar equals FAT!
Are you ready to begin your journey warrior? If yes, begin it with a warrior drink. Let the wonders of the green tea leaf carry you through your weight loss endeavors. Just think that consumption of green tea will destroy free radicals in your body and also fill you up, thus limiting hunger urges. Another plus, green tea will significantly contribute with your daily water intake. Going hand in hand with that is green tea’s cleansing abilities. You will be using the bathroom in a healthy manner. That’s killing two chickens with one stone! So get brewing, get inspired, get drinking, and get healthy!
The Fat Man Green Tea Weight Loss Plan
First Six Days:One Cup After Breakfast
Two Cups for Lunch, Prior & After Technique
Two Cups for Dinner, Prior & After Technique
Thereafter Have a Cup Every Hour and Fifthteen Minutes
As you go along you can brew two bags per cup to maximize potency.
An Aside, because of normal everyday time constraints, you can brew a half gallon at a time and store in the fridge with lemons. This will allow you to bring your green tea to work. This is how I drink my green tea.

Starting the Day with Supplements41.2 lbs LOSTso farDecember 12, 2007 by IronGuru | 13 comments
For many people, starting the day means taking an over-the-counter (OTC) multivitamin, or vitamins, and various other supplements. After all this, it’s time to go to the gym to get in a early workout session or some jogging time. Well, what should a person really be taking in the morning?
First we have to see how training affects one’s body. If cardio is done early in the morning, I would advise a whey protein shake upon waking up with any fat burners to take, as well as multivitamin. Stressing highly on not eating, but rather drinking the whey shake to contrast the effects of catabolism during sleep (where body is repairing itself, but no nutritional calories available, body makes use of existing tissues). The body will stay semi-anabolic, or at least not destroying muscle, and expending stored calories.
Now let’s break this down.

First thing is first, and that’s to get some protein in your body. You’ve got muscle and you WANT to keep it! A whey protein shake like ON 100% Whey, along with dozens of other brands, is a good start.

Second is a multivitamin. The drug store may carry a good vitamin, but it’s not the best. If you’re a hardcore gym enthusiast or amateur athlete, then you cannot starve your body of anything less than Animal-Pak. Read the info, it’s a PACKET of vitamins and not just a horse pill. Optimum Opti-Men or Opti-Women are good, cheap multivitamins. Good thing about these is they are 3 pills to a serving for men, which means you can take one before early workout and then the other 2 with breakfast as normally.

Third is the rest of your supplement arsenal you want to use to obliterate fat, while I feel this is completely achievable without, and with, the use of supplements. Products like Green Tea Extract, Melting Point, Venom Hyperdrive 3.0, and complete supplement systems target this problem. Remember, supplements make up for a LACK OF. If you haven’t put forth 100%, how do you know what you’re lacking in?
Combining these things, and finding how they work for you will lead to a dramatic increase in overall fat loss. Working out on an empty stomach is brutally effective at destroying fat, and if possible to do within a half hour of waking up. It’s good to workout then, because cardio tends to be long and boring and I’m still half-asleep I don’t realize I’m walking until it’s over!

Demystifying Nutritional Supplements41.2 lbs LOSTso farDecember 6, 2007 by IronGuru | 7 comments
Everyone reads the magazines, watches the TV infomercials, reads the hype across the internet about the hottest new supplement. Well, let’s put all this on hold for a second … Think, are you ready for this? Are you ready to put a catalyst into your body that fires you up, and puts you on a whole new level of body sculpting excellence? Well, keep reading.
Definitions of supplement
add as a supplement to what seems insufficient; “supplement your diet” a quantity added (e.g. to make up for a deficiency) serve as a supplement to; “Vitamins supplemented his meager diet”
Supplements are meant to be an addition to your diet, weight training, and cardio. My biggest gripe against supplements is that people see them as the easy way out, they see meal replacement bars or protein shakes as a complete meal. The shakes, bars, cookies - whatever it be, are meant to ’supplement’ what whole foods cannot give you. Whole foods have a hard time providing a protein that breaks down fast, can be absorbed fast, and is readily available. So, science developed Whey Protein to fill the void for a protein supplement. This was truly revolutionary, and opened the door for more great supplements to be developed.
Among the top of the list; creatine, glutamine, glucosamine, nitric oxide, and many more have led to people shattering their goals and creating the body they have always desired. But people always looked towards supplements as an easy way out, “Well if I take this and this I can do this!”. Not necessarily, while the benefits far outweigh the negatives for supplements, there is still a very strong need for real food, and hard work.
Then came fat loss drugs, Ehphedra, Dexedrine, and countless others burst onto the market and turned many, many people’s lives around - and ruined just as many. Those with pre-existing heart conditions, or people who took more than recommended found themselves with heart disease, stroke, and many many more deadly side effects.
This also ushered in a whole new generation of supplements, anabolics. Though we had seen this for many years with the use of Testosterone, and other synthetic variations of the chemical, but there were now becoming more and more oral versions which were readily available, and not always needing a prescription (or your friend’s friend at the gym across town). Pro hormones really became big in the 21st century, with Andro and then M1T, and the dozens more that filled supplement stores and prompted hundreds of retailers to open online to carry such supplements.
All this has led to the normal person not knowing what they need to take, but more important - what they should take.
Stay tuned as I will outline basic, and advanced, supplement strategies - covering everything from whey protein to an ECY stack.

Supplementing with a Fat Burner41.2 lbs LOSTso farNovember 24, 2007 by Israel Lagares | 24 comments
I have decided to implement a small change. I started taking a fat burner supplement. It’s supposed to be be an herbal formula that is designed for “optimal diet and energy.” I’m going to be the judge of that. I have a few bottles of fat burners and metabolism boosters to choose from, but I’m going to go with this one first. It’s only a 30 day supply, so it gives me enough time to test it out.
In the past I have taken Hydroxycut and Xenadrine, but they made me feel too “wired.” I wasn’t able to go to sleep until late at night too. I guess that’s what ecstasy feels like. I wouldn’t know though. This time around I have chosen to try Metabodrene 356, with 10mg Ephedra Extract. It’s comparable to Metabolife 356. I usually go for name brand supplements, but it was free so I can’t complain. Thanks Armando, ;). Some of it’s active ingredients are: Ephedra (Ma Huang) extract, (ephedrine group alkaloids) aerial part, Magnesium, Vitamin E, Zinc, and Chromium. It has a “Proprietary Blend” of Guarana (Seed), Bee Pollen, Eleuthro (root), Ginger (root), Lecithin Damiana (leaf), Sarsaparilla (root), Goldenseal (whole plant), Nettle (leaf), Gotu Kola (aerial part), Spirulina, and Royal Jelly. I may have spelled some of those wrong, so don’t shoot me if I did.
It’s supposed to make you burn fat, but we shall see. I don’t think I have a problem with burning fat once I get into a routine, but every bit helps. It’s good to keep in mind that supplements are just that, supplements. They shouldn’t be considered the end all be all for weight loss. It’s good to consult a professional before incorporating any new weight loss supplements into your diet.
I had initially started out taking a fat burner and energy supplement, but decided to wait until I hit a wall. While I haven’t hit a wall yet physically, I feel like I have hit a wall mentally. I’m certain this will kick start my motivation, sort of like a placebo effect. That’s the main reason I’m taking these. This is the first of a few different weight loss and fat burner supplements I plan on taking over the next few months. I will let you guys know if I notice any changes over the next 30 days.
Have any of you taken any fat burner supplements? If so, which and what effects did you have?

Uh Oh, Thanksgiving Day is Coming…41.2 lbs LOSTso farNovember 19, 2007 by Israel Lagares | 7 comments
As turkey day nears, I can’t help but think about all the delicious food that will be made available to me. Thanksgiving Day is the second of the the 4 Big Holidays that are a dieter’s nightmare. I am hoping that I can manage to control myself, especially since it has been so long since I had an old fashioned meal made by my grandma. I think I am going to take this approach: If I eat, I’m going to enjoy what I eat and not beat myself up for it.
There have been times in the last few years when I would try to not eat anything all day so that I could save up my appetite for the big meal, but when the time came I wouldn’t be able to eat much. Maybe I should do that? It would cause my metabolism to slow down, so that’s probably not in my best interest. I am not looking forward to Thursday at all. Not one bit. I’m afraid it may get ugly.
During this time of year my grandma makes some of her best dishes using her over 65 years of cooking experience. She prepares her special rice with beans (arroz con abichuelas), yellow rice (arroz amarillo), brown rice, potato salad with diced apples (ensalada de papas), chicken (pollo giusado), lasagna, turkey, beef, pork, and some pastelitos. My wife is also going to make a mini-feast for us, so that’s going to be delicious. Then there’s the day after where we use the left-overs to make turkey salad and sandwiches. My mouth is watering just thinking of it. We aren’t a big “dessert after the meal” family, but my wife is making some pumpkin pie. I’m actually heading out to buy our turkey in a few minutes, plus some other things we need from Sam’s Club.
I know for a fact that I won’t be able to resist eating at least two plates. Rejecting my grandma’s food is like spitting in her face. Not that that’s why I think I won’t be able to resist, but it does add to it. I managed to weigh myself yesterday (I was happy with the number on the scale) to see what my starting weight for the week was and will weigh myself next Sunday to see if I managed to keep my weight in check. Hopefully I can.

Why I Will Never Write Down What I Eat41.2 lbs LOSTso farNovember 17, 2007 by Israel Lagares | 13 comments
Why won’t I write down what I eat? Simple: I want to live a normal life. I don’t want to be one of those folks that’s writing down every single thing they consume and writing down every single thing they do. No sir. I refuse to. It may work for some folks, but it won’t work with me. It would just make me dread every aspect of getting in shape even more. I don’t want to add negativity to my life, which is what writing everything down would do.
I do refer to what I eat though. I know how many calories I have consumed and what kind of calories I have consumed. I look at labels and have a general idea of the caloric and nutritional breakdowns of certain foods. When I don’t know something I Google it. I plan in advance in a different way than writing things down. I know exactly what I will eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I don’t prepare any of it in advance or write it down, but I do know what I plan on consuming (except for the few relapses I have been having lately). It’s all in my head.
So I was perusing through my comments yesterday when I came across a comment by James. James is always commenting and giving me advice, which I love. I like the interaction with readers. Especially since I do the same thing on other blogs. Anyway, he recently made a comment that “challenged” me. It sort of pissed me off, but I welcome it nonetheless. Thinking back, it’s not that big a deal. I was just in a bad mood when I read it.
So here is his James’ comment about me (I edited the grammatical errors):
“Why won’t you ever refer to what you eat? You don’t write down what you eat, but do you know the proportions of nutriments you’re getting in? Can you say what percentage of protein, carbs and fat are you getting? I don’t see why you have a fixation on never writing down what you eat or plan in advance, if you could explain it in a new post it would be cool. Nevertheless my recommendation works as well for workouts, but are you going to tell me that you never plan in advance your workouts and never will? How open minded is that?”
With regards to your comment about not being open minded, what’s that about bro? Was that even necessary? Saying that made me want to break something. Your face! I feel like it was uncalled for man. I do plan my workouts in advance, I even printed out a workout plan and posted it in my gym.
So James, thanks for the thought provoking comment, keep them coming. No hard feelings, nothing personal. I just won’t ever write down what I eat. NEVER!
