Top 22 Weight Loss, Health, and Fitness Blogs of 2007

Top 22 Weight Loss, Health, and Fitness Blogs of 2007

When I first began writing about my weight loss journey this past May, I wasn’t expecting to have compiled such an enormous list of blogs that I actually read on a daily basis. That being said, I have decided to make the last post of the year a tribute post. A tribute to all of the magnificent, influential, and supportive people that have assisted me in my continuing journey. This list has been compiled with several factors taken into consideration., most of which are self indulgent. I did not take any third party ranking or statistics into account here. I simple based the list upon my own personal feeling towards each blog: readability, usefulness, uniqueness, etc.

I have been subscribed to these blogs for several months and read them on a weekly, if not daily basis. If I have left a site off of the list that you feel should be on here, just contact me and I will review it for possible inclusion (if I like it that is). This is a list of more personal health blogs, although I do read some corporate/professional health sites that are jam packed with useful information.

Okay, without further ado, here are Fat Man’s Top 22 Weight Loss, Health, and Fitness Blogs of 2007:

  14. Weigh Loss Weapons – Good, thoughtful posts for assistance with your weight loss.

Thanks for the mention! You read my mind. I posted one about your site just a few minutes ago. 😉

  2. JamesNo Gravatar says:

Hi, nice list, I knew a few, but why don’t you mention http://www.rtp-blog.com ? Is it because you didn’t come accross his weight loss journey (a video has been famous on youtube) or because well you just mentionned the ones you actively read?

    • Fat ManNo Gravatar says:

      Hi James,
I don’t mention that one because I don’t actively read it, don’t RSS either. I have seen the video and think it’s awesome and that he has done a great job with transforming his body though. I came across his site a few months back and at the time there wasn’t anything on there that I could benefit from or that called my attention to subscribe.

  3. johnNo Gravatar says:

Real honor being at number one there Israel, thanks. A couple new ones for me on the list I’ll be visiting now.

    • Fat ManNo Gravatar says:

I make sure to check your blog out everyday, either by RSS or by visiting the actual site. Keep up the great work, it is inspirational.

  4. johnNo Gravatar says:

I’m glad to see I made your list. \

Now, as I proposed to John (@Johnisfit) care to begin the new year with a friendly wager? I would like to get a couple of us weight loss bloggers together so we can compete to see who reaches their weight loss goal first. Whether by pounds or percent of body fat lost, or whatever seems most fair.

    Interested?

  5. johnNo Gravatar says:

If we shall compete let us make the rules as fair as possible.

I have about 15lbs left to lose to reach my goal weight. I think you have more to go Israel, is that right? What about you Mike?

What do you guys think? Do we go by body-fat percentage? waist measurements? Percentages vs. pounds/inches? What say you guys (plus whoever else wants in)?

  6. Fat ManNo Gravatar says:

I have about 50 or more to go. 50 lbs at least. Straight up poundage isn’t going to work. How about % of body weight or goal weight?

  7. Mike WhiteNo Gravatar says:

My goal weight at this moment is 250 pounds. That’s 33.6 pounds away. So percentage of weight lost would probably be fairest.

  8. Skinny GuyNo Gravatar says:

Thanks, Israel, I appreciate the mention! Like John, I’ll be checking out the blogs that are new to me. And trust me, you’re not the only one who thinks I look too skinny. One of my projects for the new year is going to be dealing with that very issue, so stay tuned!

  9. johnNo Gravatar says:

Okay, I think I’ve got a plan here.

This friendly competition will be judged based on five categories…

Percent of weight loss relative to goal weight lost
(2 lbs lost divided by 20 lbs goal weight to lose equals 10% loss relative to goal weight)

    Percent of overall weight loss
(2 lbs lost divided by 170 lbs body weight equals a 1.1% weight lost)

    Percent of waist line trimmed
(1 inch reduction divided by 34 inch waist…)

    Reduction in body-fat percentage
(Starting body-fat percentage of 28% minus new percentage 26% equals a 2% overall loss of body-fat).

    What do you think?

I am trying to think of a fifth category. Any suggestions.

Winner is whoever takes the most categories out of five. In the event of a tie the tie breaker goes to whoever wins the reduction in body-fat percentage category.

And as far as the stakes. Any ideas? Losers send out a $10 PayPal payment to the winner?

    • LeNo Gravatar says:

      Hi,
I think it is so complicated.
I have about 30 lbs left to lose to reach my goal weight.
But who is going to calculate? Me? Probably not.

  10. Mike WhiteNo Gravatar says:

    Hmmmm. Sounds good to me.

  11. johnNo Gravatar says:

    Okay, then how about this…

Competition Guidelines: Who can lose the highest percentage of body-fat in one month

Measurement: Present body-fat measurement minus body-fat measurement at the completion of one month

    Competition Begins: 1/7/08

    Competition Ends: 2/4/08

Stakes: Each lose must reward the winner with a Pay Pal payment of $10

Documentation: Although we are on our honor, it would be best if each participant could take a before and after photo to showcase their progress. Try to include a newspaper if possible to verify the date.

What do you think Israel? Mike?

And if you don’t have a scale that calculates body-fat percentage try using this website

    http://www.doctorworkout.com/tools_bodyfat.php

  12. Mike WhiteNo Gravatar says:

That means I’d have to get my own scale because I am no good at taking my own measurements. 😉

  13. Hi Israel, thanks for mentioning The Fit Shack!

I wish you and your family all the best in 2008, and I bet that you’ll be reaching your goal weight this year, too. Keep on keepin’ on, you’re doing an awesome job!! 🙂

  14. johnNo Gravatar says:

“That means I’d have to get my own scale because I am no good at taking my own measurements”

Target has some great specials running on high tech scales that give body-fat analysis.

  15. Mike WhiteNo Gravatar says:

I live in BF Kentucky. No Target here. But I’ll see what I can find. I’m actually kind of waiting on the Wii Fit. It’s supposed to measure quite a few things AND help you do exercises right. I already have a Wii, so why not? 😉

  16. Mike WhiteNo Gravatar says:

Very cool! Yeah, I sometimes play Wii Sports and I even bought Boogie for my daughter, while although a lame game, has some decent “move to the beat” music. But like you, I never really count it as an OFFICIAL workout. 😉

  17. Lady RoseNo Gravatar says:

Happy New Year! I’m honored to be on your list. Your blog is one of my favorites too.

  18. SteveNo Gravatar says:

Thanks for the nod Israel. I hope that my new weekly posts will be up to your standards 🙂

    • IsraelNo Gravatar says:

They better! Just kidding. Are you still up for that challenge? We are starting one soon, but I could still compete with you on our original one…

  19. ThomasNo Gravatar says:
