I Had My First Major Relapse and It’s Okay

I cheated with Dominos PizzaToday was a rainy, gloomy, depressing day. It has been pouring all day, since late last night actually. I was in a crappy mood all day and it showed. To top it off I had the first major relapse since starting on my weight loss journey.

I caved in and we ordered pizza. Domino’s Pizza to be precise. My wife didn’t feel like cooking and wanted to eat pizza. I wasn’t really in the mood for it, but I went ahead and said it was fine to order. We had two medium pies, an order of cinnastix, and a liter of Coke soda. It was so good. Deliciously-good. I-couldn’t-stop-eating-it-good!

After eating it I felt like crap. I hadn’t felt so crappy in a long time. When I say crap, I don’t mean I felt guilty or anything of that nature. What I mean is that my body was in some weird sort of state where I felt tired. The feeling was overpowering. My body hurt and I couldn’t open my eyes. I felt heavy and with no energy. I think my body was in shock from having eaten that stuff. That’s a sign of not ever doing that again!

I also noticed that mentally I am fine with the fact that I cheated. I don’t feel like wanting to kill myself or giving up on my weight loss. I just know that I cheated big time and need to work my butt off to get back on track. I will be doing that tomorrow.

I think I am finally getting to where I need to be, both physically and mentally. That’s a good feeling.

As long as you can leave it behind you and not let it affect your efforts, you’ll be fine. From the sound of it, I think you’re head’s in the right place, so good for you for not letting it get to you! Keep up the good work.

yeh, i would normally dwell on it and feel like a dirty rotten scoundrel for doing it, but now i know messed up and need to move on and get back on track.

Next time you feel like caving, and sometimes you just have to, try this.

Order the pizza but make sure it is

    1. thin crust
    2. NO extra cheese (you can even tell them to go light on the cheese)
    3. Have them cover it with veggies (olives, mushrooms, peppers, onions, etc.)
    4. Also have them drop some grilled chicken (or possibly canadian bacon).

AND don’t eat more than three piece. Put the rest away so you can eat a piece or two a day. That way it lasts three days AND you cut the calories drastically (from something like 450-650 per slice to 125-250 per slice).

I have had some times when I just threw away resolve and ate. Usually I would end up with horrible runs when I ate greasy and I would end up clogged up when I had steak. It would sit there like a brick. But that’s all a learning experience. I still have pizza about every other week, but I order it so that it’s half cheese and tell them to make it easy on the cheese. Then I order a half a turkey sub and tell them no mayo, no cheese, TONS of veggies and no dressing. Then I use salad spritzer on it. I love it, and really, I love my new waist so much that I can deal with this. You ought to see how I look today wearing my new size 12 denim skirt and a tucked in shirt. I feel wonderful! I hope that you feel great today too!

BTW, the MOST IMPORTANT thing about when you lapse like this….

DO NOT LET IT MAKE YOU FEEL ASHAMED, DO NOT DWELL ON IT!

Forget about it, and move on. It is easy to recover from a day or two of poor eating- sometimes it is actually helpful. Check this post out

Don’t worry, but eat thuna, white eggs and chicken breast tomorrow 🙂 only proteins and a few veggies.
Just joking, but cheat meals should be one every two weeks, not more I believe, so that the other 13 days do way more than what is undone on the cheat meal.

  6. Hi Israel, I can relate to, “My body hurt and I couldn’t open my eyes. I felt heavy and with no energy.” That’s how I’ve felt before if I’ve eaten processed food after eating clean for an extended period. So I’m not the only one out there who’s body ends up hurting…I think it’s all of the excess sodium and other additives and sugar. Your body just isn’t used to it.

WTG for just looking at it as something you did and now you’re moving on. 😉

I’m going through a similar thing right now, since I consumed an appalling amount of candy corn over the past couple of days. Just need to forget about it and get back into the groove–though perhaps I need to remember how crappy I felt afterwards.

But, yeah, it’s not the end of the world–for either of us, or anyone else going through the same thing. Just something to be annoyed at yourself over.

  8. It’s okay! Cheating is a good way to tell your body, “I’m eating healthy, damnit! And this is what bad food is…so process the good stuff I eat on a normal basis wisely!” You should definately cheat once a week (tops) to make sure your body knows what good and bad is. Keep going, it looks like you are doing great!
