knees are a touchy subject! lose weight before running definitely. Get to about 280 and then on the rocket boosters. glucosamine chondrotin is a good choice to keep joints in good working order. shock absorbtio is key! put on some Nike Shox, or the Adidas Super Nova are good sneaker/ footwear choices.

If the soreness is not some sort of excruciating pain, then keep at it. Perhaps all you need is some strengthening of the surrounding muscles. However, if it gets worse, see a doctor about it. Otherwise, jumping rope is a super cardio exercise. It shouldn't put much more strain on your knees than running. Give it a go - it's harder than you'd think though, so don't get discouraged.

I don't think that you are overthinking the "knee thing" at all. It can become a very serious issue...as you have stated.

Keep an eye on them, but don't overthink too much about it. Sometimes a phantom pain can arise when your mind is focused on the possible hurt.

Does that make sense? Hope so. It sounded better in my head

haha
