Not Just a Weight Loss Blog

I originally created this web site so that I could lose weight and get in shape. So you could say it was a weight loss blog. It has since then morphed into something else. It’s not about losing weight anymore, although I do have a some more weight to loss. It’s now about being healthy, happy, and in control of my life. I have lost weight, met new people, and learned many new things. All thanks to this blog.

The last six months have been eye-opening. I always knew I could get in shape and get in control, but I had not seen it or felt it. Does that make any sense? What I mean is that I hadn’t envisioned it until now. Losing weight was always this distant, unachievable goal. Every year was a let down. Thanks to this blog I have now dropped a significant amount of weight and feel like I can manage my diet and exercise in a healthier manner than before.

The main theme of this blog may seen like it’s about weight loss, but it’s not. It could more easily be classified as a health blog. Or better yet, a life blog. Yeah, I like that much better. A life blog! About my life and all the stuff I deal with, some of which has to be weight loss, fitness, and nutrition. So this isn’t only a weight loss blog folks. I used this blog to propel myself into accountability and support. Guess what? It worked! Go search the web for bloggers that have a weight loss blog and a constant that you will find is that they have been able to be held accountable by blogging. The support you receive is also phenomenal. Everyday I log on I think of all of the other folks that are in my shoes working away towards their goals. I read their blogs and happenings, and it’s nothing short of inspiring.

This is a life changing stepping board…Hop on.

Not only that, but I wonder if a lot of those folks who have stopped maintaining their blogs have also given up on their fitness journey. It is sad, so many that were around when I began have just disappeared without even a final post goodbye.

That’s a possibility. Maybe they just got too busy.

Just started my journey again last week. I’m 5′3 and 149 pounds. I keep trying but always end up falling off the wagon. Any tips?

      • Start small. Accomplish little things. Are you happy with yourself? If the answer is no, then do something to make you happy. It’s going to take some commitment and fortitude to lose that weight, but it gets so easy after a while that it becomes habit. Start off with controlling your eating and replace bad choices with healthier ones.

  2. I’ve only had my weight loss blog for a short time, but already I feel the same as you. Having a public audience helps to motivate me to stay on course.

I started out about 3 years ago just tracking my workouts, times, etc. using Blogger. It has worked quite well. You can easily see how many workout you did per month, check your progress, etc. And all for free.

You are right on in your writing that there is a lot involved with weight loss. It may be nutrition, motivation, exercise selection, psychology…you are getting results so you must be on the right track.

Plus, you are helping others…way to go.

    Best,
    Coop

  4. I think it’s so cool you’ve got this blog and you’re turning your life (and health) around for the public to see. Kudos to you my brother! You are well on your way to being a very fit dude. Keep it up!

This is my first time on this blog and I really like the content ; ) Have you guys checked out thedailyskinny.com yet? It’s mainly for healthy weight loss, but they also get into some great nutrition and exercise advice.

  8. The awesome part you may want to take note of is the added Accountability you now have. You have an entire audience encouraging you and Almost Forcing you to be consistent in your quest! Having people around you in the process of achieving any goal is such an important factor in your accountability to your own process.

I was watching the Celtics/San Antonio basketball game today and a large element of the commentator focus was on how Kevin Garnett is making the Celtics a great team because of his leadership and his encouragement for the team to remain accountable to themselves…although his skills don’t necessarily hurt! Keep it up. We want to see that six pack before the year is up!

Thanks for the great post Israel. It’s awesome to read that blogging has helped you, and others, stay on track.

I suppose it also gives you another area of support which wouldn’t have been there before. Blogging could actually be a great area to get into for those who just don’t have a strong support network at home etc – I hadn’t even thought of that before.

Best wishes, and keep up the good work!

I have started on my own journey recently and found that having “buddy’s” to share with do help in the process of losing weight and gaining health. I have always been “the fat kid” and I have gotten to a point in my life now that I am not going to be that anymore. I have realized I can be “big” and healthy. I have had some success in turning some fat into muscle, seen the results and have been inspired to never go back. Something in my mind has clicked (finally) to not want to look just fat, but toned. Muscle definitely looks better than fat. I have been able to lose 27 lbs in 8 weeks with working out and changing my diet. My kids are also looking at more healthier food choices and I hope they never have to be battling the bulge in their lives. That, along with my getting healthier, would be the best I can ask for along this journey. Keep up the good work, and blogging, you never know who it will inspire! Your website mentions “FREE” Fat Man unleashed shirts? Hook me up! LOL It will be an awesome shirt to wear to my gym! I noticed the size options, I can actually fit into an option (2XL) now!!! LOL It feels great to lose weight!

    Hi,
Congrats on your success. I have recently decided to turn my life around and become healthy. My only issue is that I has very sensitive skins so I got a BUNCH of stretch marks. This may sound stupid, but they’re not just little pink lines, they run from my ribs to below my belly button, the whole way up my sides and above my boobs and they are dark purple. I’m excited to lose weight, but I am discouraged to show people my skin. I saw that you have a few on your stomach ( nothing compared to mine ), but what do you plan to do about it? Does it bother you? Will you feel weird with your shirt off with a 6 pack and stretch marks? Anyway, you look great and keep it up!
    Sarah

  17. Sarah says:

Thanks, I actually agree with the war scars part. I guess it’s just hard being a girl with all these stretch marks. I kind of feel like when I am actually comfortable enough to wear a swim suit again that anyone who has an issue with my skin can screw themselves because I have worked so hard. Again, congrats on your success, it’s really inspirational.
    Sarah
