Psychobabble Introduction47 lbs LOSTso farJuly 6, 2008 by Rock Star Jen | 10 comments

Editor’s note: Rock Star Jen is a new contributor to Fat Man Unleashed. I would like to welcome her with open arms as she focuses on the mental health part of being healthy. Rock On!

Wow. Believe it or not this is my first introduction to the Blogging. I guess you can call me a late-adapter. I’m okay with that. Even though this site is mostly about getting healthy and fit on the outside, I’d like to start a discussion series about getting healthy on the inside. I believe every action, failure and success starts internally.

For me, I consider myself pretty healthy. I try to maintain a healthy life-style because I want to be around for a long time. I’m a nurturer and a care-taker by nature so having someone do the same for me, feels a bit unnatural.

I’d like to pose a few questions:

What steps do you take to get motivated to get healthy?

What thoughts cross your mind?

Why is getting in shape important to you?

Jen ~ Welcome to the blogging world and you’re in fine company on FatManUnleashed!

To get motivated, I read positive affirmations and surround myself with positive people. Positive attracts positive! (Negative does the same.)

As for thoughts, I focus on my goal and the glass being half full. If I begin to falter, I imagine only have a week to live and think about how I would spend my time. In that manner, I know what is truly important … those are the true blessings of my life and I am thankful for them.

The importance for me to get in shape is to be healthy and to live longer; I truly want to spend more time and enjoy more activities with those I love and to help others. What a gift it is to be able to pay honor to those who helped me while assisting others in their own personal journeys.

Best wishes and looking forward to reading more of your work!

Maintaining a healthy life-style is the most important factor.

I agree that physical health also has a mental component — if the mind can conceive it, the body can achieve it. It’s just a matter of conditioning your mind to think healthy, and to not even consider quitting or slacking off an option. Think healthy, be healthy.

This is my first time posting to a blog site…I’m in the process of trying to change a lifetime of bad eating habits. I’m 27 years old and weigh about 400lbs. I recently had a physical and surprisingly enough everything was excellent except for my blood pressure. I already knew this as I have been taking medication since high school. I finally decided to take control, but find the mental blocks difficult to get past. I’m glad that this topic has come up.

To get motivated I’m trying to surround my self with other people that are serious about weight loss. I’ve even spoken about it to my family to encourage open dialog about health as obesity is prevalent in my family. I find that just talking about health positively keeps my mind on it and helps me make better decisions.

I want to get healthy not only for health reasons, but who doesn’t want to look good naked. LOL!

Thanks for you time.

Great site Israel!

BIGTYME, if you are thinking these thoughts you are on your way. Just keep thinking them. Remember that it took you a while to get to 400, so it’s going to take you some time to lose it. Just keep positive, learn as much as you can about how your body works and do what works for you mentally.

I think for me everything revolves around my goals. I need to have goals so I can have a motivator to work towards. When I’m thinking about health improvement, I’m looking at how what I do affects the goals that I have set for myself. Getting in shape is important to me because I feel I can give myself a greater chance of avoiding serious issues later on in life by staying health now.

“What steps do you take to get motivated to get healthy? ”

I don’t know if there are steps you can take, I think more often the motivation hits you. For me it was brushing my teeth and watching my stomach jiggle and one day later jumping rope with my daughter and seeing my fat bounce all over. I was disgusted and resigned myself to change.

    • My name is Israel. I used to be the kind of guy that was always in shape: a gym rat. But over the last few years I have fallen off tremendously. This is my final attempt to get back into shape and get to where I once was using this weight loss blog as my main tool.
