same thing here.
the gas prices, when they are insane,
i definitely take less trips and walk more,
because i don’t want to spend the gas.
not worth it, especially in the neighborhood.

but now that prices are back down again,
taking advantage of it and driving a bit more.
but will go back to more walking and exercising,
when the prices go back up soon.

My work is just 5 mins away from home. Used to be 20 mins of driving distance. Quite a bit of saving… but you know what. I’m spending more because I fell relieved and not thinkining of what I could have done with it…

Driving to work is soooo frustrating in traffic. I try to ride sometimes, but the distance is over 20miles each way. When I do I feel great. Walking 30 minutes a day is tops. Everyone at my work just started a global corporate challenge and we all walk around with pedometors and record our steps. We are in teams and compete agains the others. Its actually really motivating and you keep trying to increase your steps.

Yeah, driving to work sucks! I hate being stuck in traffic being forced to do nothing else but listen to the radio. Take the bus and read, or better still (as you suggested) ride a bike to work! It helps our bodies and our environment – which in the long run also helps our bodies!

I almost entirely agree with your sentiments. I love riding my bike, and oftentimes, depending on traffic, it’s not only cheaper, but also faster.

However, the one exception I would say is if you’re going somewhere close by but you need to look presentable. In that case I can’t risk mud, rain, or even just starting to sweat. It’s worth it at those times to pay for the gas in a car that keeps me clean

You pretty much summed it all up I think. Less poluted air would also be a welcome upside to the rising gas prices.

In the EU gas prices are about 9$ per gallon, which is about the double of US gas prices. Then again, I don’t have a car and neither do I need one to get me where I want. My country is not even 1/4th the size of your state… lol
