Funny post. A fat Superman is plausible, but Batman only exists because he is a genius in superb physical shape. If he were fat he would get his ass kicked in or shot. I feel the same way about all superheros who are not invincible. Wolverine could get away with it, Deadpool probably could not. Green Lantern would be fine, Nightwing would not. Spiderman, as you mention, would not be a successful fatty. His fat ass would get smoked the first time the Green Goblin tossed a pumpkin bomb.

what a fantastic writer you are!!! chunky superheros would of been an awesome concept. usually the goofy characters are slated for side kick status but to have a realistic looking hero would be super...lol. great pics too!!

I guess the idea of superheroes such as Superman, Spiderman etc, is that they're all role models (super-kick-ass) role models for children and adults alike, but what you're missing is they couldn't sell tickets to the film versions with fat superheroes could they!

Imagine Ethan Suplee playing Superman, Kevin Smith as Spiderman and, and... actually it's difficult thinking of at actors actually.

I think there's a bloke in the new X-men film that's overweight but sure can pack a punch!

Drawing overweight characters as a coping mechanism is better than eating food as a coping mechanism.

As an overweight kid I often thought about this...I can remember being as young as 13 or so thinking that all the physiques of superheroes and other characters being all muscular or svelte, and how I would fall short of that image. I used to draw my own superheroes who were hefty or loved junk food like I did, and my friends would ask me why I made my superheroes fat and I said so that all body types could be represented in heroes. I guess it was a sort of coping mechanism for my own weight gain.

Yep. Always seems unattainable, maybe that's why we make them our heroes...to strive to be where they are. Images have a credit in the bottom right and at the end of the article.

It's so interesting how our childhood heroes always seem so unattainable. Where did you get these images?
