This Weigh-in is a Huge Disappointment47 lbs LOSTso farJuly 16, 2008 by Israel Lagares | 52 comments

Last week I confessed about not having been eating properly. I haven’t weighed myself in a very long time. I finally weighed myself today, it was not a pretty sight. I’m extremely disappointed with the number I saw on the scale. I clocked in at 320 lbs.

That sucks! Big time. I gained back over 16 lbs. I’ve been hammering out some killer workouts, but I guess my eating poorly has caused me to put the weight back on. I have gone ahead and added the weight lost back to “Lbs Lost So Far” area above. I have also updated my weight chart, something I hadn’t done since December 2007.

I am committing to weighing myself once a week from this point on until I reach my first goal. What is that goal? To lose the weight I put back on. How am I going to achieve that? Working out and controlling my eating. When I ate healthily, in moderation, and frequently I lost weight. That’s the piece of the puzzle that I need to add. I lost track for a while, but now my eye is on the prize again.

Now everyone knows how big of a disappointment this weigh-in was. Next week won’t be so bad because I am going to crank it up a notch!

My previous weight was 330 lbs so I know the disappointment you are feeling; however, the good news is YOU CAN DO THIS!!! I’m down 146 lbs now and would suggest implementing a food journal, reaching out for support, positive self-talk and motivational quotes. These were crucial to my success! Love your honesty and your determination!!! I Believe in YOU!!!

Thanks Ranae. Thinking of losing that much weight is overwhelming. I’m going one day at a time for now.

Couldn’t agree with you more, Israel. Took one day at a time and sometimes 1 hour at a time and made many small goals. They were easier to make and provided the momentum for continued ones. Best wishes …

I like the baby steps, small goals approach. Will be testing that out. Thanks.

Hey Israel,
What type of diet do you usually follow?

What was your motivation to stick to a plan before?

You know what has to be done, so go for it.
Best,
Coop

I had many motivation factors. I lost track in a major readjustment I had to make in life. But now I have settled in and can get back to work. My diet? 4 to 5 meals a day.

I can feel your pain man. I gained back about 11 pounds by getting a bit complacent and just not paying attention for about a month or so. Nothing to do now but get back on the train. Best of luck to you.

No worries… Before I recommitted I had ballooned back up to 391… Now at 330 and falling I can say I haven’t felt this good in years… You can do it.

Keep at it, remember the key is not being on a diet, but about changing a lifestyle. And remember, it does not have to be perfect, you will make mistakes, just keep at it and a few years from now you will be stunned with the results.

A few years? I can’t wait that long. I need to see some minor results in a few weeks.

Maybe this is the motivation you needed?
I can confess, that I too can workout like a fiend. I can sweat and push with the best of them. And at the end of my workout I bet I’ve sweat off 10lbs!!!
But the harsh reality was, I didn’t really start to lose the weight I wanted until I changed my eating habits, and changed my diet.
It wasn’t a drastic change, I just identified my weaknesses in snacking as well as the kind of food I was eating.
I made slow small changes… and as of this week, after my Dr.’s visit.. I’ve lost an additional 15lbs since January.
For me that’s huge!

I’m pullin’ for ya buddy.

Maybe it is. I know how crucial eating can be. I plan on visiting the doc in a couple weeks to check all my vitals and what not. Hope it goes well since its been years since I’v been to the doctor for a check up (minus my 2007 appendix fiasco).

You can do it Israel. Sometimes we need to take a step (or two ) back to make a few steps forward. Keep on keeping on and you will make it. Announcing to the world you slid some takes some guts and is an inspiration to those of us also working through the fat.

Best wishes brother! When I ran into a similar setback, I also started eating better, and also added 6 minutes per day onto my cardio routine (elyptical). I figured swinging the eating and the calorie buring would in effect “compound the interest.”
it worked!

PS– I stopped weighing and now track my waist size reductions. I get more thrill outta losing belt loops.
Have you thought of this approach?

Is, sure it’s a disappointment. You had hoped for something better, but in the back of your mind, you knew.

Look, it is NOT ANYTHING that you can NOT change about that stupid number.

Call it a disappointment, call it a slip up, call it a bummer. My dear Is…..call it a call for change. :)

I know you can do it!

I know that it sucks to gain weight, but I think this can turn into a positive. I find that I get a lot out of getting back on track when I’ve strayed from my goals. You know that you can lose the weight because you’ve already done it. And once you reach your goal and lose that weight back, you will be even more determined to not let it happen again. Like I said, right now it’s no fun to regress, but I think it will help you in the long run.

You’ve obviously made some huge changes in your life. I’ve only been reading your blog for a couple of months, but I can tell. I’m at the beginning of making some huge changes. I’m coming at it from every angle. I’m seeing a therapist (lots of past issues), attending Overeaters-Anonymous group (these people get me… almost every one of them has a similar life story to mine), I’m exercising (I personally love dance aerobics classes), and I’m reading everything I can get my hands on. I know my perspective is green. I’ve only been at this since the beginning of June, but I’ve lost 16 pounds, and feel like I’ll finally have success at making the changes I need. I couldn’t do it without OA and my therapist. I guess my advice would be to seek out a support network (in addition to the blogging community). You’re strong, you can do it.

You know what Jen? I have thought about that. Going to a meeting of OA. I am going to shoot you an email about that. Thanks for reminding me.

I just want to thank you Israel!

Your extra weight could be from your muscles ;)

p.s. To answer your question. It took me about 6 months to lose about 15 pounds and heal my liver inflammation due to cholesterol. Since then I have lost another 30-40 pounds.

I thought about that, while it may be true to an extent, I didn’t gain all that in muscle so I need to be realistic.

GO ISRAEL GO! YOU CAN AND YOU WILL! YOU HAVE GOT TO PUSH THROUGH THOSE TIMES WHEN YOUR MOTIVATION IS WEAK AND THEN IT WILL EVENTUALLY SHINE THROUGH AGAIN SO, GO ISRAEL GO!

Actually what I have done in the last few weeks to spark my motivation is I signed up for a Personal Training diploma. It has really given me another boost and I am now on a track again that will lead me to my goals.

Take care bro!

GO ISRAEL GO! (I feel like a cheerleader, gosh what an ugly thought :( )

Is,

This Japanese Proverb always motivated me on my fat loss journey, and I hope it does the same for you:

“Fall seven times, stand up eight!”

Hang in there bro, we’ve all been there. Hell, I went an entire year (2005) and lost a grand total of 5lbs. As long as you keep making yourself accountable to YOU, you’ll be just fine!

    • My name is Israel. I used to be the kind of guy that was always in shape: a gym rat. But over the last few years I have fallen off tremendously. This is my final attempt to get back into shape and get to where I once was using this weight loss blog as my main tool.
