Sad Day in the Fat Man House: Only 1.3 Lbs Lost

Yes folks, I am extremely disappointed. Today is a sad day in the Fat Man Unleashed household. I am semi-depressed actually. I weighed-in today at 301 lbs…

That’s right. Only 301 lbs. That means I only lost 1.3 lbs. last week. While losing any amount is good, I was really hoping to break the 300 mark today. I was sure that I would be at least 298 lbs, especially after the awesome week I had. I was rocking the workouts and reaching new levels but it wasn’t meant to be. My eating was also pretty damn in control too.

I do feel better physically, look better and some people are beginning to notice the weight loss. Maybe I am losing fat and gaining some muscle weight? I don’t know for sure. Maybe I will find out this week when I visit the doctor for the first time in a long time.

I am going to keep it short since I am feeling crappy about not reaching my first major goal…

Another year of disappointments like this and you’ll be down to 233 lbs…

    • Israel LagaresNo Gravatar says:

Good point… I suppose it’s all part of the journey. I am down 47 lbs total, which isn’t bad. Plus I feel better physically now then I did a while back.

don’t sweat it. you will be sub 300 soon enough. this should be motivation to work out even more. either way i think the things you are doing are part of the short an doing term plan.

  3. Not losing weight isn’t necessarily a bad thing… I think you should focus less on losing weight and more on losing fat. Make sense?

As you said, you might have lost fat and gained muscle, which would be a good thing…

nope keep watching the scale… just some thoughts. ron coleman pushes 300 pounds, he has 300# people muscle. manuel uribe lost 23 pounds last year (they said he gained muscle). I don’t think you need to lose but so much each week on a decent plan. as long as you are losing you are doing good.

    Israel,

Don’t beat yourself up over losing only 1lb last week. Hell, imagine only losing 3 pounds in 3 months? If you are doing what you know you need to be doing, then keep at it and let your body take care of itself. Also, keep in mind that your body weight fluctuates up to 5 pounds on a daily basis. So, you may very well be under 300 pounds as you read this! Again, just keep doing what you know works to lose fat bro!

    Hey Israel,
I was having similar issues in which I was clearly looking and feeling better but wasnt losing significant weight. I ended up buying a Fat Loss monitor (specifically the Omron HBF-306C) from amazon. I feel it allowed me to see\understand the bigger picture during my weight loss. (Which for me was to lose fat and look good nekid, not neccesarily lose overall weight). Overall I went from 260@36%BF to 200@18%BF and as i tracked both numbers i quickly realized BF was decresing more rapidly than weight.

  6. So, what about muscle weight? how many inches did you lose this week?

I stayed the same weight this past week but gained 5 inches in all the right places.

I’m sure I don’t need to remind you that if you were to drop 5 pounds of fat and gain 3.7 pounds of muscle, it would show up as a 1.3 pound loss.

however, something to be truly happy about accomplishing.

whoops, just read that Linus has the same thoughts above

  7. Have you thought about using something like physicsdiet.com to track your weight. YOu get a much more realistic idea of what your weight is doing rather than being at the mercy of your daily water fluctuations etc.?

You know how it is. Sometimes you work hard and dont lose very much. The next week you can not work out so great and lose more.

In my case, I usually see the results or a good/bad week the following week.

Chances are that you will see some great results next week based on your work this week.

    good luck

  9. TomNo Gravatar says:

Don’t feel bad, you’re still making progress. Even if it is less than you were hoping for, it is still the right direction. Don’t get discouraged, just use is as motivation for your next weigh-in

  10. I agree with Furious Weight Loss. You should really be looking at inches and BMI. I’m sure you lose more weight but just gained some muscle this week which offset how much weight you actually thought you lose. You are doing an amazing job, keep up the good work. Also, if you are hitting a plateau in weight loss you might be doing a routine that needs to be changed up. You body might be getting use to it. I would suggest changing up your work out routine and see how that helps you.

Don’t sweat it. My wife and I talk about this all the time. Your individual weigh-in’s may vary, but its the trend that matters. You’re doing great. I know that my weight varies by 3-4 pounds from morning to evening, depending on what I eat.

  12. Israel,

Over one pound a week is great! To fast can lead to other issues. Anyway congrats on the continued progress.

    Hi Israel,

Hey…you and I both know that this whole weight loss thing is a peach, right? I mean, you can work hard and lose weight and you can work hard and gain weight, just like you can sometimes do all the wrong stuff and lose weight, which is a shocker when THAT happens!

They say that muscle weighs more than fat, but I say a pound is a pound regardless if it’s fat or muscle. The thing is though, muscle takes up less space than fat does, which is why when you exercise, you may notice that your pants feel looser, but the scale may go up a pound or two or just stay the same.

You are almost there, Israel! You are almost under that 300 mark and today isn’t forever thankfully. Next week you may find that the scale numbers are at or below 295! How cool would that be? I say that would be weigh cool!

Have a great day and keep up the good work!

    Melissa

Nearly each week look in I here and read with large interest the interesting and always well written contributions. Today I would like to leave gladly to a greeting from Thuringia in Germany!

  15. InvisalineNo Gravatar says:

Don’t sweat the 1.3 Israel! I was in your same boat and I am confident it is muscle weight. In my experience this happened after a while of consistent decrease in weight. It will slow down. But don’t worry for me it picks back up again, the later pounds are just harder to lose.

  16. MetroknowNo Gravatar says:

I have to say, MS’s comment cracked me up. . .totally right. You are definitely on track, and you WILL break that threshold in the coming week. Positive thinking, right?

You have this man. You’re a workout weightloss ANIMAL! (trying on a personal trainer hat just to see how it feels. dang. feels good.)

  17. JessieNo Gravatar says:

I know how it feels to see crap numbers come off your scale. I am soooooooooooooo fucking close to breaking the 100 pound marker and that’s all my mind is focused on right now.

    gotta break 100
    gotta break 100
What’s that? The entire west coast has been wiped out?
    gotta break 100
    gotta break 100

I had a setback the other week, actually…gained some weight..lost a bit of inches…but gained weight. I cried like a baby and was in a pretty bad place for a few days later. I worked hard for 2 weeks and got a big slap in the face…or so it seemed at the time.
I think we put too much emphasis on the actual numbers. Your body is continually adjusting and re evaluating the things that you are throwing at it. As you know, and as others in here have already stated, there are so many other ways to record your progress. How your body feels, being my personal favorite.

I think you are an incredible man, with some incredible drive that is passionate about his health and well being. It makes all the difference. You’ll get there Israel. I believe in you.

Hey, dont be depressed. This happens. Look at the bright side. You may have gained muscle mass. Keep at it. Regulate your diet, get some good sessions of HIIT and strength circuit training done and you should be good to go 🙂

I feel for ya man, I am currently on week 12 of my diet and eating rabbit food all the time. Food is one of my few pleasures and seeing only a lb or 2 a week loss is frustrating.

Ah yeah, The old Fat Vs Muscle loss/gain battle. I remember when once upon a time I was down to 205 and still overweight I was going crazy over that before I figured out I was lifting too many weights and not doing enough cardio.

Sadly the Fat Vs Muscle has worked against me too. At one point I got lazy and slacked off at the gym. I was losing weight but yeah….. Not the good type of weight to be losing. But at the time I was like “Awesome, Weightloss = I must be doing a good job”

  23. Don’t let it get you down. Hey..you’re close to a big milestone, hitting under 300lbs. Won’t it be nice to say you weigh “two hundred something” ?

  24. Don’t Worry, you are working hard and if people have started to recognize the changes, it means you are loosing fat.Continue your work and set your targets ,now you have a clear idea of how much work is required to meet your targets.

  25. Steve v4.7No Gravatar says:

Dude! “Only” is totally the wrong word. Losing weight like you have is phenomenal. Every pound, every half-pound, is a step closer to your goal.

Next week will be even better.

  26. DietsNo Gravatar says:

all diets take time and patience. and remember that you will always hit your plateau that you will have to work around.

  27. RoketaNo Gravatar says:

I’ve lost 45 pounds since last October. I’ve been taking it slow. About a pound a week. But every time I was at a milestone, it would seem my weight loss would slow down. Then after I would pass the milestone the weight loss would speed up again. My body just hates me.

  28. LED LightsNo Gravatar says:

It’s normal. Body can not always lose.

  29. Keep going, remember down is down and you are also building muscle!!

    Take care
    Andrew

  30. Any amount of weight that you lose is a WIN-WIN in my book. Nice work on your part. You inspire me for sure.

  31. Not losing weight isn’t necessarily a bad thing…
it was a nice blog u think.
    thanks to sharing info….

Congratulations! Don’t be upset by that. You should be happy be then. At least you lost a bit lbs plus aside from that as what you said you feel better physically, well that’s great to know. Losing weight takes time. You should take it step by step. Just keep it up! 🙂
