Valerie – A New Me Forever

My name is Valerie Zink, and this is MY story. I was overweight since the 4rth grade. My parents were very poor while I was growing up, always struggling to make ends meet. Because of this, I ate A LOT of cheap processed foods. I would NEVER blame my parents for who I became; I […]

Some Tips to Help You Lose Weight & Improve Your Fitness

1. Set small, specific goals. Perhaps you’d like to be the same size you were years ago, but that may mean dropping more than 40 pounds. Don’t go there — not yet, at least. Set a smaller goal of losing 5% to 10% of your weight, and give yourself plenty of time and some flexibility […]

Is BistroMD Worth The Cost?

What up world?!?! Long time since I’ve posted a REAL blog. But I have something special for you in this article. I was asked a good question by my uncle Jay, and the question was available for everyone to see on one of my many facebook wall posts. I say it is a good question because I questioned it myself while on the program. Here is the question from my uncle Jay.

The show is about overweight teens who have graduated from high school and work through their summer vacation to lose weight and transform themselves before entering college. It’s Easy Not to Cheat When You’re Always Cheating

So I’ve been eating Nutrisystem food for a few weeks now. Another major thing I realized is how good it tastes!!! Forget about how I feel full through out the day and have no cravings. Weekly Weigh-In: Another 3.8 lbs Lost, 70.4 lbs Total

I. Am. On. Fire. I’ve lost another 3.8 lbs this week. That brings my total weight lost to 70.4 lbs. SEVENTY!!!! That’s crazy. I now weigh 277.6 lbs. I have 30 more pounds to lose to reach my next major goal of 248 lbs. At that point I will see where I am at and what my new goals will be. I will also have reached the 100 lb weight loss goal at that point.

Coming Out of the Dieting Closet

By far, my least favorite of all the filthy, scandalous four-letter words in the English language is “DIET”. No other word has the ability to make my toes curl and skin crawl like the dreaded “D” word. Tell me that the idea of having to go on a “diet“, or the memory of having been […]

Weekly Weigh-In: 3.4 lbs Lost

Week two of being under 300 lbs. Another week and another few pounds lost. This time I lost 3.4 lbs, much less than the 10+ lbs from last week, but it’s right around where I want to be on a weekly basis. I think at this point I can consistently lose 2 to 3 lbs a week with no sweat. Well, I need to sweat but you know what I mean.

Small weekly loses are better for me in the long run than huge loses. My total lost so far is at 59.6 lbs. That’s 60 lbs in my book. 60 mutha freaking pounds I lost. Back in the day losing 60 lbs was a major thing for me, or any I knew for that matter. But here I am about halfway to my goal and 60 lbs doesn’t seem like anything to me. How times change…

Ask Dr. Rybicki: Basic Weight Loss Procedures

Exercise is the cornerstone of weight loss. I advise patients to start slow and develop an exercise program that includes both core strengthening and aerobic exercise. I recommend that they work their way up to aerobic exercise for a period of 30 to 40 minutes three times a week. Common examples of aerobic exercise include running on a treadmill, riding an exercise bicycle, or using elliptical trainers.

Weekly Weigh-In: 10.6 lbs Lost

I finally broke the 300 lb plateau I’ve had since I started this blog. I’m in the 200’s now. It was time for my weekly weigh-in this morning and although I felt confident that I would drop weight, I was not expecting to be down a staggering 10.6 lbs this week! That’s right! I dropped down below 300 lbs for the first time in many, many years. I don’t quite know how to react except to keep on doing what I am doing so that I can reach my goals each week.

“Easy, Effortless and Miraculous Weight Loss – Guaranteed!” – Yeah Right!

According the FDA, approximately 50 billion Americans will go on a diet this year, spending an estimated $30 billion dollars on weight loss programs and products. I don’t need to break out my trusty, dusty calculator to know that I have contributed significantly to that staggering figure. Diet centers, gym memberships, pills, teas, workout DVD’s, […]

Ideal Body Weight – Fantasy vs. Reality

A doctor once told me that for my height, I should weigh between 124 and 138 lbs. I laughed right in his face. That seemed to upset him, so he went on to preach about the dangers of obesity, and how the excess weight I was carrying around was destroying my body. I laughed again, […]

The Biggest Loser Couples Season 7, Episode 7 Video Recap with Pete Thomas

Right at the start of the show, Alison met everyone on their way to the gym for their morning workout. She had another pop challenge for them. This is new this year and looks like it just started last week. When you looked, the gym was padlocked with two chains around the doors and one lock on each chain. The entire group working as teams would have to hike up a hill near the gym, select one key from a board with I’d say over 50 keys, come back down the hill and see if the key you selected worked. Now, if the key opened the padlock, that team would get full use of the gym for the week. Any team that did not find the key were locked out of the gym and had to work out outside instead of using the machines. After much up and down the hill eventually the pink team (made up of mother and daughter Helen and Shanon) and the brown team(made up of father and son Ron and Mike) found the keys to open the locks and won the right to work out in the gym.

The Biggest Loser Couples Season 7, Episode 6 Video Recap with Pete Thomas

This night starts the 100th episode of The Biggest Loser, where over 15,000 pounds have been lost to date. This is just the 7th season and that’s some serious weight loss.

The episode started with the brown team taking a look at why their loss kinda slowed down and that busting 10,000 a day may have mixed their metabolism up. Later they were talking to Bob and found out that they needed to actually eat more to kick the metabolism in.

The Biggest Loser Couples Season 7, Episode 5 Video Recap with Pete Thomas

There were some that did wonderful, like Sione of the blue team and Carla of the Silver, and there were some that did not do well at home. They were weighed in right away to see how they did while working out at home and that was their starting weight for the team weigh-in at the end of a week’s stay. Sione won immunity since he lost the biggest percent of weight while working out at home.

The Biggest Loser Couples Season 7, Episode 4 Video Recap with Pete Thomas

Ok, last night the group was working on being reunited with the partner that went home. Looking back, the 1st week all the teams split up and one member went home while the other member stayed at the ranch. The group that was at the ranch had Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels as trainers to whip their bodies back in shape. All of those that went home had to work out with the same effort as those on the ranch.
