Detox The Easy Way41.2 lbs LOSTso farAugust 22, 2007 by Israel Lagares | No comments
Detox, the less drastic approach for you to try.
Detoxification of the body is an essential part of the weight-loss process, besides being an overall good health practice. When you hear the word detox does it scare you? Sounds more like something twiggy girls named Ritchie and Lohan are into…huh? Well you’re wrong my flabby friend. Cleansing your insides through alterations in diet can prove super beneficial not to mention a soul searching endeavor but we’ll get to that part later. The plan I have cooked up is a more laid back clean up. It doesn’t require fasting but does implement portion control and consist of the elimination of certain food options.
First and foremost if you want to have a successful cleansing or “detox†cycle you have to have all the supplies to get it done. You will need plenty of green tea, any type will do, but if you want to get fancy and invest in the expensive Japanese green tea leaf versions all the better. Routine consumption of green tea is the base of my “detox†program and should be part of yours. Start out with 2 to 3 servings a day for the first 3 days of the detox, then progressively add a cup a day over the final five days of the your cleanse cycle. Also have 1-2 cups of lemon water every day in addition to all the green tea. Simply squeeze half a fresh lemon into a 12 ounce serving of water. The length of you detox should last eight days.
Next you need the nutrients of the earth to fuel your initial steps of transformation. My nutrients of choice include fresh blue berries, fresh raspberries, fresh black berries, fresh kiwi, fresh grapes, and fresh cherries. Small 6 to 7 ounce servings of any these options three times a day will be an awesome vitamin boost to the immune system. Do not exceed four servings, as it may add to overall water retention.
Secondly you will require something I like to call “the morning staple.†The morning staple has to be a food void of fat and must provide a small to moderate amount of positive carbs. It will start you day off with enough fuel and comfort to push you towards dietary victory. In my determination, the almost perfect candidate is oatmeal with the utilization of only a small amount of milk if necessary. And please folks be strong, do not under any circumstances add sugar! Be tough you can do it.
Lean chicken breast will be your friend for the rest of the day. Prepare a grilled dish of chicken breast topped with olive oil, peppercorn, and sliced tomatoes. You can take this dish to work as lunch and it even can be eaten cold. Use an apple for dessert as it will also make you feel full. Spinach can also be combined with chicken breast to make a very tasty health dish when olive oil is added. Variations of the spinach can be experimented with such as Swiss Chord or any of the spinach cousins that have obscure names that escape me at the moment. For further fuel at the office try raisins and nuts (please don’t “mistakenly†slip m & m’s into the mix, I’m on to those tricks). I understand how difficult it is to steer away from yummy goodies at the workplace. Most offices are hotbeds for cheat foods. The plump and motherly manager who brings in her homemade carrot and banana cake dishes is often to blame. Or even the cheap big boss man who attended a fancy wedding the night before and comes in saying “you guys wouldn’t believe all the pastries and lobster that stupid caterer was chucking.†This is the point…find distraction! The act of being on the hunt for a healthy but interesting substitution is in itself a mission. Hopefully such missions spice things up and keep your mind off all the tantalizing burgers and pizzas you are already missing.
Dinner is admittedly a challenge in the detox world. But remember we are doing the easy going detox so cheesy lasagna is fine. Just kidding! Don’t you guys wish this was the case. But seriously tackling dinner requires foresight, practicality, and an open mind. Try eating a very large salad before the dinner. No salad dressing! Just olive oil. Sprinkle in peppercorn, you can even slice grapes into the salad…yes grapes it taste unbelievably good. Don’t forget to add carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, green and red peppers as well. Not full yet? I didn’t think so. Try Salmon as the main course. Or lightly (emphasis on lightly) breaded chicken cutlets with zucchini as a side dish. Be sure to top off with olive oil. By now you have to be full. If not eat a whole vegetable or fruit. A celery stalk, a whole carrot, a plum or peach will also do. Follow your vegetable or fruit with a cup of green tea.
Keep up this diet plan for eight days straight and you have earned my respect. The rewards extend beyond the physical. You are exerting self control which is a healthy and fulfilling brain function. Being in control and crafting your own path is an empowering act that makes individuals more confident and happier! So enjoy the full gamut of benefits that this diet plan will afford you. Good luck and happy eating.
