Weight Loss Confession or Help Me Get Motivated Video

Okay, I need to tell you guys a secret I have been holding dear to my stomach. Ready? Yes? Okay, here goes. For the last few weeks I have been out of control with my eating. I’ve been cheating on my eating. I haven’t been pigging out, but I just haven’t been making the right decisions with my eating. What’s wrong with me? Part of the reason for my cut the BS post the other day was to motivate myself. It helped, for a little while. Then I went back to my bad eating. My workouts have been great, but my eating ruins it.

I also haven’t weighed myself for a very long time. I’m afraid of what I will see on the scale. I think and feel like I have added a few pounds back, but we will see the official number next Wednesday after my official weigh in. I’ve decided on updating my weight loss, getting back to my reason for starting this weight loss blog in the first place, every Wednesday. I think this will help me stay focused with having to post good numbers. Live by example, right? That’s always been my motto and now is no exception.

So, what do I do? I figured I would make the short video below to get back on track with my eating before this spirals out of control and I reverse all of the hard work I’ve done. Want to help me get motivated? I would really appreciate it. Your words, harsh or not, will help encourage me. I read every single email and comment that is sent my way. Every one!

Thanks in advance!

  1. Hey bro,

Your honesty and intention of taking action right now speaks louder than any words of encouragement that we can give you.

This experience just made you stronger buddy. You faced a challenge and are blasting through it.

Man, we’ve all been there, and we’ll all be there again. This journey that we’re on is not about perfection. Perfection is the worst thing that we can strive for.

The problem occurs when you allow this to go on for too long and don’t put a stop to it as you just did. We need these experiences.

One thing that has worked to motivate me is to schedule a photo shoot. It’s the ultimate accountability. Schedule a photo shoot for 12 weeks from now, tell us the date, and post your photo to the blog when you complete the journey.

Use the purpose of your blog to motivate you. We are motivated by your journey, your words, and your actions. We look up to you. When you succeed, we are inspired to succeed. Your actions will have a tremendous impact on the world. You’re making a difference.

Keep up the great work and be sure to share what you’ve learned from this experience with us.

  2. Hey mate, I think thats great you have put yourself out there. Like you said you have done it before, and you can do it again. You just need to put the last couple of bad weeks behind you. Tomorrow you wake up and you start with a clean slate. Maybe you should write out your goals again and then put in a plan of how you are going to get there. Remind yourself of all the reasons why you want to get back on track. You can definitely do it! Dont get down on urself though. It is a tough challenge but that will make it more rewarding. Enjoy the challenge!

No worries buddy. We all slip from time to time, you’ve acknowledged it, (that’s the hardest part), now just take control again, right now. Best wishes and good luck.

  4. no doubt being accountable on a weekly basis helps.

    • Israel LagaresNo Gravatar says:

At first it did help, then I thought that if I kept it up it would hinder me so I stopped. Boy was I wrong.

  5. TomerNo Gravatar says:

Great to see you’re accountable and caught it fast.

Every few days or so I check the weight chart to see if you were updating it… After 6 months of no updates, I kinda figured you were avoiding it cause you were afraid to see the results, I’ve seen it happen to others… like business owners not wanting to look at their profit/loss cause they don’t wanna admit they’re losing…

need to keep it real and know whats happening..

    good luck israel!

You’re on the right track most of the time, and that is what counts! I have my own feeding frenzies sometimes (due to my cycle, though, so it’s a little different than guy reasons) and I have come up with a way to mitigate the damage. I will allow myself junk but only after I have eaten several healthy things. Like, I’ll tell myself I can have the whole bag of peanut M&Ms as soon as I eat one apple, 2 stalks of steamed broccoli, and a big glass of a calorie-free drink that I have added a fiber supplement powder to. 9 times of out of 10 I am too full to even think of the M&Ms or chili or ice cream or whatever and I have taken in vitamins and fiber that are good for me. I am 5 foot 7 and weigh 140 pounds and have been at this wt, down from 175, for 6 years. Keep it up, Israel! It’s inspiring to read your blog!

    • Israel LagaresNo Gravatar says:

Jennifer, good job on the 6 years of maintaining. I will try your technique and see how it works for me.

  7. Pat KingNo Gravatar says:

Israel, as someone stated earlier it’s good that you are owning where you’re at right now and not pretending like nothing is wrong. You know what you have to do……JUST FRICKIN DO IT! πŸ˜›

Seriously man…..you have all the tools. If you need some motivation or someone to hold you accountable I’d love to help you out!

  8. TomNo Gravatar says:

As cliche as it sounds, recognizing that you have been cheating is going to go a long way in helping you get back on track. Many people start getting away from the diet plans and don’t realize it, or won’t acknowledge it. Pointing it out to your readers is a great way to help motivate yourself. I think rededicating yourself and using your weigh-ins will help you a lot. Your weigh-ins are a great way to help keep you from losing sight of your goals. Good luck getting back on track.

  9. MuataNo Gravatar says:

Israel, it’s good that you recognize that your eating is ruining your efforts int he gym; however, I think you should also consider taking periodic breaks for your diet. For those of us who have a lot of chub to lose, we think that we need to diet hardcore, 24/7, until we reach our “ideal” weight. It’s no wonder folks diet, lose the weight, only to regain it.

Lyle McDonald talks about these planned breaks in his Guide to Flexible Dieting. I also think this article by Charles Staley may be just what your looking for.

Have the mentality of an athlete and not an exerciser bro. Hang in there!

  10. RoseNo Gravatar says:

So two weeks off the wagon eh? This has included July 4 and may also be part of a midyear ‘break’ or a summer ‘holiday’. Weight gain as well as loss is generally gradual so you can’t have added too much to you total mass during this time.
Whatever you call it, I hope you enjoyed it because now its over.
Spend some time considering how you can best move forward….
What foods will be best to provide you nutrition and variety?
What exercise program will you be able to sustain?
Feel good about both before you re-start and then onward and upwards!!

  11. KimberlyNo Gravatar says:

Israel, when would now be a good time to start? What is it that you are doing right now that you like/love way more than being healthy, buff and taking care of your bod?

Personally, I think you just need to set a date to start and do it, start that day. You seem the type of guy that once you do get started, you can roll.

I bet you’re still drinking lots of water! Hooray! That’s a healthy habit. And I bet you can think of at least a couple more that you are doing too. So let’s just add onto your success list and focus on that.

Scott’s got the point…use your blog to motivate yourself as well as us. That’s what he does. That’s what I’m doing. Hey, I’m less than 4 months post-op from that hip replacement and I’m jumping! If anyone has ever needed to have a hip replacement, you know that you can’t jump. I’m so happy to be able to do it I could, well….jump!!! πŸ˜‰

You have lots of folks here rooting for you. Now root for yourself. πŸ™‚

  12. Israel LagaresNo Gravatar says:

I just wanted to thank everyone for the encouragement. It helps a ton.

  13. We’ve all been there man, just need to take heart that you had the guts to tell us and work off of that. I hate seeing my own weight loss chart right now but it also is a reminder not to slip back the whole way and undo everything.

  14. Thanks for the honesty Israel.

Keep it going man. You can do it.

I’ve lost a total of 45-50 pounds since my peak weight of 208. I was also diagnosed with high cholesterol and liver inflammation, so my wife decided to help me with my eating habits. It’s great to have someone next to you because a person with weight problems usually can not do it himself/herself. I only exercised about 5 days a week for 30min-1hour each time. I started eating less rice. I don’t exercise now, but probably just walk around the block 2 times a week. My metabolism is fast and I’m eating a lot more, but my weight is dropping.

I have been watching your numbers here and have been waiting forever to see the new stats lol. You did go off-topic for a little bit, but great to see you back.

    Israel,
I agree, by simply admitting the problem, you’ve taken the first step. Some would argue it’s the most difficult step. In any case, recognizing and admittig it publicly is a great movement forward.

My suggestion for motivation is nothing fancy, no colorful words of wisdom, or any quip-like anectodes.
I would simply suggest: Get off your ass and start practicing what you love to preach. We all have our weaknesses, we all have our moments. Like you said, cut out the B.S. and get to it.
What motivated you in the first place? Work it out before it works you out!
My ‘Pinch Prompt’ post touches on this: http://www.2bestrong.net/2008/07/pinch-prompt.html

Good luck buddy, I’m rootin’ for ya! I’m here if ya need some good ole’ fashion harassing!!

    Hi Israel,

The first thing about moving on or getting up and dusting yourself off after a fall it admitting to someone (or blogging to the world) to be held accountable so you HAVE TO get back up and keep going and maybe (we hope) it will make our new efforts stronger.

I have to say, I have just come through a similar phase and I have renewed my efforts and I’m starting to get back on track.

I have to apologize to you as I could have been more supportive to you by commenting more and encouraging you, will I make a commitment not to be a ghost visitor at FMU but I’ll comment more.

Take care and keep moving forward,
    Andrew

I Faced similar type of problem few months ago. Taking healthy food and do exercise every morning help me a lot. Now I am able to loose few pounds and feeling better than before. In my opinion don’t take fatty or spicy food and do exercise on daily basis. Don’t worry keep trying.

    • Israel LagaresNo Gravatar says:

I really want to get into working out in the morning but it’s becoming really hard to get out of bed. LOL.

Hey man. I know exactly how you’re feeling. I’ve been skimping on my diet for the past couple months too. I know what you feel, the bloating, the guy, the disgust, etc. Since I graduated from highschool, everyone has been having graduation parties and that means free food and tons of it. I ate everything I could, even the things that I have avoided for the past year…. sweets. I had M&M’s, chocolate, Sour Patch kids, twizzlers, and more M&M’s.

Just keep strong, moping over it now will not help, it’s in the past. Just keep focused on what you have to do now!

I’m getting back on the blogging train and I hope I can be consistent with it πŸ˜€

Mate the only weight loss diet that is worth it is one that you can stick to in the long term. The idea is to lose weight without starving yourself.

The fact that you are having some difficulty just goes to show that this is the wrong plan for you.

You need to develop a eating habit that is sustainable. No you probably will not lose a gazillion pounds in next to zero seconds but in the long run you will achieve sustained weight loss.

  22. NormaNo Gravatar says:

Like you always say keep a positive attitude and things will work out. Also keep your post about Cut the BS post in mind when you are going to eat. Make sure to make good meals and snack choices.

  23. Hi Israel, I can understand your moment right now (I hope it passed) it’s very hard. I’m a big guy too, I have 370 pounds and I just started my diet, so right now is easy but I’ve been trying for years to lose weight and I always fail.
My advice is to never go away from the scale, because is the scale that’s going to be your reality check, the scale never lies right?
My strategy is to weight myself everyday, some people might think is too obsessive but I do that not to find how much pounds I lost but to analyze the day before, what I did right and wrong and is a good reality check everyday.
Before I started my blog I was doing a diet and I was losing weight during the week (not much) and gaining back during the weekends and that happens for 2 weeks.
I was getting desperate so I sat down and thought about what I could do to change this situation, so I stop eaten cereal bars and moderate my food intake during weekends and I start to see the results coming.
It’s normal to have periods where you don’t lose weight or even gain a little bit, but check out your weight so you don’t lose your track.
    Take care,
    alex

I can empathize with your article. It is rather difficult to stick to a diet and exercise. You can achieve your weight loss goals and don’t be too harsh on yourself, we all have our moments. Thanks for sharing.
